Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach – Job Description
Position Overview

Malden Catholic High School seeks a passionate, experienced, and mission-driven Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach to lead the girls basketball program. The head coach will be responsible for developing a competitive, disciplined, and values-based program that reflects the school’s Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School mission and commitment to educating student-athletes in mind, body, and spirit.

The ideal candidate is a culture builder, teacher, and leader who will elevate the program while fostering an environment of accountability, teamwork, and excellence on and off the court.

Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Culture
Establish and sustain a program culture centered on integrity, discipline, teamwork, and servant leadership
Promote and model the Catholic mission and values of Malden Catholic in all aspects of the program
Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, families, and the school community
Build strong relationships with administration, faculty, alumni, and the broader MC community
Coaching & Player Development
Plan, organize, and lead all practices, training sessions, and skill development programs
Teach advanced technical, tactical, and mental aspects of basketball
Develop individualized player development plans to maximize student-athlete growth
Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff to support year-round athlete development
Game Preparation & Competition
Lead all game-day strategy, scouting, and in-game decision-making
Develop comprehensive scouting reports and opponent preparation plans
Foster a competitive mindset while maintaining sportsmanship and respect for the game
Compete at the highest level within league and postseason play
Program Oversight
Provide leadership and alignment across the entire girls basketball program (freshman, JV, varsity)
Collaborate with assistant coaches to ensure consistency in teaching and culture
Lead tryouts, roster decisions, and player evaluations in alignment with program standards
Student-Athlete Development
Prioritize academic achievement and monitor student-athlete progress in collaboration with school staff
Promote leadership development, character formation, and college readiness
Support student-athletes through recruitment opportunities at the collegiate level
Communication & Community Engagement
Maintain strong communication with parents, players, athletic department, and school leadership
Represent Malden Catholic Girls Basketball in community outreach, camps, and events
Help grow feeder programs and youth basketball development pipelines
Promote program visibility and engagement within the school and broader community
Qualifications
Prior high school or collegiate coaching experience preferred
Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, systems, and player development
Demonstrated ability to build culture and sustain competitive excellence
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Commitment to academic excellence and holistic student-athlete development
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
Ability to support and uphold the Catholic mission of the school
