Position Overview
Whitman-Hanson Regional High School seeks a dedicated and experienced Head Football Coach to lead our football program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the field, fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and teamwork while maintaining the highest standards of safety and competitive performance.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive practice plans, training programs, and game strategies for the varsity football team
Oversee and coordinate all levels of the football program (varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams)
Recruit, hire, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches and support staff
Ensure student-athletes maintain academic eligibility and support their academic progress
Teach proper techniques, fundamentals, and tactical understanding of the game
Promote character development, leadership skills, and positive life values through athletics
Maintain open communication with parents, administration, and the broader school community
Manage team logistics including scheduling, equipment inventory, budget oversight, and facility use
Ensure compliance with all MIAA rules, regulations, and league requirements
Prioritize student-athlete safety and maintain current knowledge of injury prevention protocols
Collaborate with athletic department staff on program development and facility improvements
Represent Whitman-Hanson Regional High School with professionalism at all athletic events and community functions

Required Qualifications

Current CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)
Current MIAA coaching certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)
Thorough knowledge of football rules, strategies, and techniques
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, faculty, and administration
Commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of student-athletes

Preferred Qualifications

Previous head coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level
Experience developing successful football programs
Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles
First Aid certification
