Exciting Opportunity, Head Hockey Coach at Notre Dame Academy!

Join us at Notre Dame Academy - Hingham, an all-female college preparatory high school dedicated to empowering young women in grades 6-12. As a vibrant Catholic learning community sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, we focus on personal faith formation, academic excellence, and social responsibility.

We are looking for a driven, experienced, and dynamic Head Hockey Coach to lead and continue the growth of our girls’ hockey program. This is an exciting opportunity to take charge of a program with a proud legacy of success. Notre Dame Academy’s girls’ hockey team is a division I contender in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). With over 22 years of tradition, the program is widely recognized for its competitiveness and excellence—having qualified for the State Tournament 11 times and claiming two State Championship titles.

Key Responsibilities:

The Program
•Provide strong leadership and direction for the girls’ hockey program.
•Utilize extensive coaching experience and a deep understanding of the game to effectively manage and develop players at all
skill levels.
•Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Notre Dame Academy in all aspects of the program.
•Cultivate meaningful relationships within the team and broader school community, promoting a positive and inclusive team
environment.
•Support student-athletes in their overall development, both on and off the ice, including advising and advocating for future opportunities beyond NDA.
•Serve as a visible and engaged member of the NDA community, attending events and building strong connections with students,
families, and faculty.
•Communicate effectively with players, parents, school administration, and staff to ensure alignment with the school’s
expectations and goals.

Coaching & Player Development
•Develop and execute structured training programs, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and strategy.
•Provide coaching during practices, games, and tournaments to ensure high performance and growth of players.
•Offer regular feedback and evaluations to players, guiding their progression and identifying areas for improvement.
•Foster a positive and competitive environment that encourages personal growth, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Player Management
•Mentor and manage players on and off the ice, maintaining positive relationships with both individuals and groups.
•Address individual player concerns in a timely manner with personal development goals in mind, providing guidance on both
hockey and life skills.
•Ensure that players meet team expectations and remain committed to training schedules, health, and fitness goals.
•In close collaboration with the Athletic Director, proactively manage conflicts or issues that arise among players, maintaining a
respectful and harmonious team environment.
•Build relationships with local schools, youth leagues, and other hockey organizations to expand the program's visibility and
attract high-caliber athletes.

Administrative Duties
•In collaboration with the Athletic Director, execute administrative tasks such as scheduling, travel arrangements, game plans,
and practice sessions.
•Coordinate with other athletics staff members to ensure that the team is properly equipped and prepared for games, practices,
and tournaments.
•Maintain player rosters, statistics, and team records.

Community Engagement
•Represent the team and Notre Dame Academy at community events.
•Build strong relationships with local communities to promote the team and generate support.
•Lead youth camps, clinics, or other summer programs to engage the local community and inspire the next generation of girls
hockey players.
•Serve as a role model for players, demonstrating the values of our mission, teamwork, integrity, and sportsmanship
In addition to coaching, the candidate will be responsible for supporting admissions efforts, student retention, and engaging with
local organizations to build strong community relations. The head coach position has direct responsibilities for communicating
the vision and providing guidance to the assistant coaching staff.
****All coaching candidates must commit to our coach development expectations and process while executing the role in
collaboration with the Athletic Director and Principal of the school.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
•Minimum of 5 years of experience as a successful head hockey coach at a competitive level (high school, college, semi-
professional, or high-level amateur).
•Strong knowledge of hockey tactics, strategies, and team dynamics.
•Exemplary organizational skills for handling administrative tasks, scheduling, and managing team operations.
•Proven leadership ability with a track record of player development and team success.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with players, staff, and community members effectively.
•Ability to manage both individual player performance and team cohesion.

Education & Certifications:
•Certification in hockey coaching (e.g., USA Hockey, Hockey Canada)
•Bachelor’s degree in sports management, physical education, or a related field is a strong plus.
•First Aid/CPR certification required.
