Job Description
The Athletic Trainer shall:
1. Provide and assist with preventative programs as needed, including
a. Physical conditioning
b. Environmental safety
c. Equipment safety
d. Field safety
2. Provide athletic injury management
a. Injury recognition
b. Functional evaluations
c. Acute care
d. Supervision of rehabilitation
e. Return to play guidelines
f. Appropriate application of protective taping, padding, wrapping, bracing, or dressing.
g. Current research based strategies for ATC’s.
3. Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments;
4. Provide appropriate preventive services
a. Strengthening exercises
b. Stretching
c. Taping, wrapping, padding, bracing
5. Make appropriate medical referrals to physician when warranted and inform parents, school nurse, and athletic
director of said referrals
6. Develop and maintain Plan of Care with School Nurse and School Physician, when applicable
7. Communicate with ambulance services, EMT’s and all medical staff, when appropriate
8. Develop and maintain protocols for emergency care with the approval of the School Nurse and Athletic Director;
keeping coaches informed of the Emergency Action Plan.
9. Develop and maintain updated concussion guidelines.
10. Keep a cooperative working relationship with the School nurses and any other member of the medical staff
a. Help maintain updated clearance lists
b. Be aware of any medical condition of student athletes and their Individual Plan of Care for athletics.
11. Ensure that the training room is maintained in an orderly, functional, and sanitary manner.
12. Create and keep a positive training room environment for all student-athletes
13. Attend athletic events in accordance with a schedule developed in consultation with the Athletic Director
a. Provide Athletic training services during said athletic contests to visiting teams as well.
15. Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training supplies.
16. Be the liaison between student-athlete, parents, coaches, physicians, and specialists.
17. Ensure the safety and well being of all student athletes on and off the field.
18. Ensure the adherence to the MIAA and district polices regarding athletic participation and play with respect to
medical safety and clearance.
19. Protect the confidentiality of records and information about student athletes.
20. Maintain a professional and ethical relationship with colleagues, coaches, parents, student-athletes, and any
other outside agencies associated with the district.
21. Assist the Athletic Director as requested to perform other duties and responsibilities that are within the scope
and law of athletic training.
22. Administer and maintain records of all concussion-related testing and protocols, communicating with the school
nurse with respect to any clearance/return to play and/or full academic participation
23. Communicate needs and concerns to parents in a timely manner in reference to injuries
SALARY: The Athletic Trainer will be paid an hourly rate and in consultation with the Athletic Director.
SCHEDULE: The athletic trainer’s schedule will be established in consultation with the athletic director.
Position Type: After school/Evening
Salary: $56,000 to $65,000 Per Year
