Spring Golf Sectional Championships: Walpole Repeats in South; Wellesley Tops North/Central/South Field

The Bay State Conference proved its mettle in the 2025 MIAA Spring Golf Sectional Championships. Walpole High School repeated as champion in the South Sectional on Tuesday, May 27 at Maplegate Country Club in Bellingham, then a day later it was Wellesley High's School's turn in taking home the North/Central/West title at The Haven Country Club in Boylston.

The top three teams from each sectional, plus top individual finishers, will fill the 64-player field for the 2025 MIAA State Championships on Wednesday, June 4 at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland.

South Sectional

Walpole carded a team score of 371 on the par-72 Maplegate course to finish 18 shots ahead of runner-up Barnstable High School (101).

Hanley Correia of Bishop Feehan High School earned medalist honors with her 2-over-par 74, which was 3 strokes better than Callie Crean of Hingham High School (+5). Correia also won the South individual title in 2023.

Tori Adams of Walpole led the winning effort for the Timberwolves with a +12 score of 84, putting her in the three-way tie for third with Meghan Garthee of Barnstable and Bianca Ligotti of Bishop Stang.

Also scoring for the Timberwolves were Juliet Massey (T-11th, 91), Gretchen Connolly (20th, 97) and Deanna Nosal (27th, 99).

Rounding out the top 10 individuals were: Olivia Jatczak of Cape Cod Academy in sixth (86); Alyssa Paine of Scituate High School and Maddy Eagan of Marshfield High School tied for seventh (88); Isabella Scioletti of Saint John Paul II High School in ninth (89); and Lauren Trulby of Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) in 10th (90). 

Duxbury High School was third (394) in the 10-team field, followed by a three-way tie for fourth at 402 among Bishop Feehan, Notre Dame Academy and Hingham.

Results     

North/Central/West Sectional

Despite not placing an individual golfer in the top 10, Wellesley surged to a team score 358 (+70) on the par-72 The Haven layout, and the Raiders were 15 shots clear of runner-up Wachusett Regional High School (+85, 373).

Maddie Smith of Westford Academy emerged from a tight pack at the top of the leaderboard to earn medalist honors with a +2 score of 74. Smith was 1 shot ahead of Erika Redmond of Concord-Carlisle High School (+3, 75), followed closely by Champa Vistein of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School (+4, 76) and Sophie Redmond of Concord-Carlisle (+5, 77).

Alike Lavu and Denise Pan were the top finishers for Wellesley among a three-way tie for 16th place (+14, 86). The Raiders clinched their victory as teammates Jenna Saini and Ruby Savarese both shot 21-over-par 93 to tie for 24th.

A three-way tie for fifth place at 6-over-par 78 included Lauren Connor of Westfield High School, Rebecca Kriegsman of Ashland High School, and Georgia Beland of Notre Dame Academy (Worcester). NDA's Addison Cutting tied for eighth with Cecily Henshon of Longmeadow High School, both at +7 79. In a three-way tie for 10th at 10-over 82 were Lily Staiti of Wachusett, Rory Herrick of Tantasqua Regional Senior High School, and Kylie Heffernan of Nashoba Regional High School.

Nashoba was third as a team (+111, 399), with Hopkinton High School a shot back in fourth (+112, 400). Auburn High School was fifth overall (+115, 403).
