Spring 2025 State Championship Lookahead: Boys Lacrosse

There is a new home for the 2025 MIAA Boys Lacrosse Championships, as Mass. Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay will host the four title games on Saturday, June 14.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead:
Division 1
Boston College High School vs. St. John’s Preparatory School
3 p.m.
These teams certainly will need no introductions.
Not only have the Catholic Conference rivals met twice previously this season, but this will be their fourth matchup in five years in the state championship game. St. John’s Prep has won each of the previous three, including a 16-14 slugfest in 2023.
No. 1 seed BC High not only is looking to break its St. John’s Prep hex, but the Eagles will be trying to secure their first state title since 2018, when they beat Acton-Boxborough (16-3) for the only trophy in program history. BC High also fell short vs. Lincoln-Sudbury in 2016 and 2017.
Meanwhile, No. 2 seed St. John’s Prep will be looking to make it five straight titles in all. These Eagles knocked off Needham a year ago (17-13) after their run of success vs. BC High. Prep also won a 12-11 overtime thriller vs. Duxbury in 2010, sandwiched between a pair of defeats to the Dragons in 2009 and 2011.
St. John’s Prep won the regular-season matchups by scores of 7-6 (April 29) and 8-4 (May 21).
ROAD TO MASS. MARITIME: BC High – Beat Attleboro (17-4), Central Catholic (15-5), Bishop Feehan (10-3), Acton-Boxborough (14-11) … St. John’s Prep – Beat Medford (19-1), Wellesley (16-1), Westford Academy (11-5), Lincoln-Sudbury (12-5)
Division 2
Billerica Memorial High School vs. Reading Memorial High School
12:30 p.m.
Each of these public powers has recent championship game experience, but with differing results.
No. 1 seed Billerica last appeared in 2022, dropping a tight 9-8 battle to Longmeadow. The Indians are chasing the program’s first title since 2001, when they rolled to a 12-3 victory over Longmeadow for their only crown. Billerica also fell to Duxbury in a 14-13 overtime thriller in 2008.
Reading, the No. 6 seed, has won both its previous appearances, including a 9-4 win over Duxbury in 2023. The Rockets also have a 13-9 win over Concord-Carlisle in 2018.
ROAD TO MASS. MARITIME: Billerica – Beat Tantasqua (19-1), Agawam (21-6), Walpole (11-6), Mansfield (10-7) … Reading – Beat Marblehead (17-2), Algonquin (13-6), Duxbury (11-10), Westwood (10-9)
Division 3
Falmouth High School vs. Scituate High School
10 a.m.
There will either be a first-time winner, or the end to a relatively long title drought.
No. 3 Falmouth will be chasing its first title, as the Clippers’ only previous championship game appearance was a 10-4 loss to Norwell in 2023.
No. 5 Scituate was here a year ago, falling short against Medfield (13-4). The Sailors already avenged that one in the semifinal round and now chase the program’s third title overall but first since back-to-back wins in 2008 (17-5 over Cohasset) and 2009 (8-7 vs. Dover-Sherborn in OT).
ROAD TO MASS. MARITIME: Falmouth – Beat St. John Paul II (18-5), Old Rochester (13-4), Shawsheen (9-6), Nauset (14-3) … Scituate – Beat Tewksbury (18-1), Dover-Sherborn (17-8), Dracut (10-9 in OT), Medfield (11-9)
Division 4
Cohasset High School vs. Norwell High School
5:30 p.m.
The final game of the day pits a pair of South Shore rivals in close proximity and with plenty of familiarity. But this will be the first time the programs square off for all the marbles.
No. 1 seed Cohasset is chasing the program’s seventh championship overall. The Skippers beat Sandwich (8-4) for the Division 4 title in 2023 and also won Division 3 in 2006-07, 2010, 2014 and 2018.
The championship history doesn’t run quite as deep for No. 3 seed Norwell, but the Clippers won back-to-back D3 titles in 2022 (11-3 over Medfield) and 2023 (10-4 vs. Falmouth). Norwell is 2-2 all-time in state title games.
Cohasset won the lone SSL matchup between the teams, a tight 12-11 battle on May 19.
ROAD TO MASS. MARITIME: Cohasset – Beat Hull (17-0), Winthrop (19-2), Littleton (12-3), Nantucket (11-2) … Norwell – Beat Dennis-Yarmouth (22-2), North Reading (11-2), Oakmont (18-6), Manchester Essex (15-6)
