The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce that Ryan O’Byrne, a senior at Belmont High School has been chosen as the Student of the Month for April 2025.

Ryan was nominated by Athletic Director Adam Pritchard and Varsity Baseball Coach and Head of Guidance Jim Brown.  As Mr. Pritchard stated in his nomination, “Ryan is one of most talented and dedicated athletes at BHS and would be a terrific selection and representation for Belmont High School.”

As a student, Ryan is an Honor Roll Student who carries a B+ overall average overall. Although Belmont High School does not rank, Ryan would clearly be placed near the top of his class.  As a senior, Ryan is taking an  AP Environmental Science class and three other Honors level classes,  including Honors Statistics Honors a course focused on  Social Justice.  A driven student and great school citizen, Ryan has been accepted at Endicott College where he will study Finance. His ultimate goal is to pursue a career in investment banking.

As an athlete, Ryan is ”…one of the best to come through BHS for baseball,” according to Coach Brown.  A three-sport athlete throughout his career, (football, basketball, and baseball), a shoulder injury during football sidelined him through March; thus shortening his athletic seasons this year.  However, in typical fashion, Ryan rehabbed his injury everyday and was prepared for the baseball season.  He worked his tail off and rehabbed so he could be ready for the baseball season.

Coach Brown continued his praise of Ryan stating, “Senior Captain, Ryan O'Byrne has helped turn the Belmont Marauder Baseball season around with his play on and off the field. The Marauder 9 started off the season 2-5, marred by a plethora of injuries, four starters on the bench. Since then, the team has gone 5-1 and improved their record to 7-6 overall and a lot has to do with Ryan O'Byrne's leadership on and off the field. He is one of the best hitters in the Middlesex League and has been for a few years now; he is a four-year starter and has been a unanimous All Middlesex League and Conference Player for the past two years. This year, he is batting .429 with an on base percentage of .510. He truly leads by example and his teammates look up to him.”

The Marauders will continue to jump on O'Byrne's back as they shoot for an MIAA Tournament berth with a little over two weeks left in the season and he welcomes the added responsibility.  He is taking his baseball skills and will continue to play at Endicott College next year.

Off the field, Ryan has been a great leader and mentor, getting teammates to volunteer for youth clinics, and helping during the Holiday season loading and unloading Christmas trees at the local Lions Club. He towers over the little leaguers in the clinics as he stands nearly 6 foot 5, but he is great with teaching them the sportsmanship and fundamentals of the game he loves so much. Ryan is very much a team first kind of guy and remains humble in his ways.

The MIAA congratulates Ryan and the entire Belmont High School community.
