Keira Murphy of Agawam High School: Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2026

Posted: March 1, 2026

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) is proud to recognize Keira Murphy, a senior at Agawam High School, as the Student of the Month for February 2026. Keira embodies the ideal of the student-athlete, pairing elite competitive drive with world-class academic discipline and a heart for her community.

In the classroom, Keira’s academic resume is a testament to her relentless work ethic. Currently standing as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2026, she has masterfully balanced the rigors of top-tier academics with a heavy athletic schedule. Her scholarly achievements and leadership roles include:

  • Top of Her Class: Class of 2026 Salutatorian
  • Honor Society Memberships: National Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, and the Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society)
  • National Recognition: Recipient of the College Board's National Recognition Program Award
  • Future Planning & Peer Leadership: Active member of the Future Medical Career Club and the Student Ambassador Program

Athletically, Keira is defined by her dominance and fierce leadership, endurance, and grit, on the field and the track. As a three-sport athlete and multi-time captain, she has left an indelible mark on Agawam Athletics. As a three-year starter and 2025 Captain for the Varsity Soccer Team, Keira was the absolute backbone of the Brownies' defense. Playing virtually every minute of every game, she matched up against the best players in Western Massachusetts without ever asking for a sub. Her soccer accolades include being named a two-time All-League selection and a two-time All-Scholastic selection. Keira's endurance translates seamlessly to the track, where she has been a four-year competitor and a captain for both programs during her junior and senior years.  In Indoor Track, Keira has been a Captain in grades 11 and 12.  She has participated all 4 years of high school and been a staple in the following events: 600 meter race, 4 by 400 meter relay, and 4 by 800 meter relay.  She has also competed in PVIAC championships all 4 years.  In Outdoor Track, Keira has been a Captain in  grades 11 and 12 and participated all 4 years of high school.  Her events have included the 800 meter race, 4 by 400 meter relay, and 4 by 800 meter relay.  She has also competed in State Championships all 4 years

As a community leader, Keira understands the importance of giving back. Keira routinely dedicates her time to lifting up those around her, whether it is raising awareness for critical causes or mentoring the next generation of Agawam athletes. Her service work includes:

  • Volunteering for the Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention.
  • Supporting Pink Games to raise funds for various cancer charities.
  • Mentoring young athletes through Girls on the Run and local youth soccer clinics.

Perhaps Soccer Coach Laura Ramos said it best at their end of the year banquet as she described Keira: “The word that comes to mind with this next Senior is remarkable…Nothing short of remarkable in all sense of the word. On and off of the field remarkable. She was the backbone of the team and our defense playing 80 minute of every game and taking on and running through some the best of the best in players that Western Mass had to offer. She never lost a step in her play, never asked for a sub, and could always be heard directing and leading her Teammates on the field. That is the fierce leadership she brought to the team. She is loyal, a tremendous leader, role model and teammate…she is someone you want young Agawam Soccer players to emulate. Big things are ahead and there will be a hole where she left it in our program.”

Congratulations Keira.
