Jeremiah Kinsumba of Leicester High School: Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2026
It is with great pride that the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association recognizes Jeremiah Kinsumba as the MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month for February. A standout senior at Leicester High School, Jeremiah’s journey from a quiet middle schooler to a premier state champion and community leader is a testament to the power of dedication, school spirit, and personal growth.
Scholastically, Jeremiah has demonstrated a remarkable academic trajectory, earning Honor Roll recognition throughout his junior and senior years. More than just a student with a high GPA and class rank, he has become a collaborative force in the classroom. During a challenging group project in his Property Management class, Jeremiah’s leadership proved pivotal. Recognizing that his team was struggling to organize, he stepped in to clarify roles and break complex tasks into manageable steps. His ability to refocus his peers led to a successful project and reinforced his firm belief that strong collaboration is the foundation of achievement. Beyond his standard curriculum, Jeremiah remains an active member of the History Club, showcasing a genuine, lifelong passion for learning.
Athletically, Jeremiah has etched his name into the history books as one of the most decorated athletes in Leicester High School history. February was a milestone month for his career, as he became the first athlete in his coach's 20-year tenure to qualify for the New England Championship Meet. His Indoor Track & Field Highlights are tremendous:
- State Champion: Captured the Massachusetts Division 5 State Title in the Long Jump.
- School Record Holder: Set a new program record with an elite leap of 22 feet, 1 inch.
- Qualified for the State Meet in every individual event he entered, including the 55m dash, 300m dash, High Jump, and Long Jump.
- Established new school records this season in both the 55m and 300m sprints.
Jeremiah’s dominance is not limited to a single season. He is a five-time League All-Star and holds a staggering eight school records across indoor and outdoor track, including the Triple Jump and three separate relay events. On the gridiron, his impact is equally felt as a three-time Central Massachusetts All-Star and a member of the 2025 MHSFCA Division VII All-State Team. As a captain for the football, indoor track, and outdoor track teams, he leads with a work ethic that has set a new standard for the entire athletic department.
Jeremiah’s commitment to community and his strong character is best reflected in his selfless service to the town of Leicester. He understands that being a student-athlete means being a steward of his community. His volunteer efforts include:
- Donating essential holiday food staples and toys to the Leicester Food Pantry.
Donning the school mascot suit for the Sunrise 5K to energize runners and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
Assisting with the labor-intensive move to the new high school facility and performing landscaping for the Leicester Senior Center.
Serving as a volunteer for the Special Olympics, where he provided direct support and encouragement to participating athletes.
Jeremiah Kinsumba’s transformation into an elite competitor and a compassionate leader embodies the true spirit of the MIAA. He has proven that when a student invests in their school community, excellence in both academics and athletics naturally follows.
Congratulations, Jeremiah, on this historic and well-deserved honor!
