Jack Shapiro of Boston Latin Academy: Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2025
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to recognize Jack Shapiro of Boston Latin Academy as the Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2025. Jack’s tenure at BLA is defined by a rigorous pursuit of excellence, seamlessly balancing high-level academics, multi-sport leadership, and a deep commitment to community service. Jack was nominated by BLA athletic director Jordan Manchester.
Jack is a standout scholar who has consistently challenged himself with one of the most demanding curricula available. A member of the National Honor Society, Jack maintains an impressive 4.11 GPA. His academic trajectory shows a steady increase in rigor as he continues to take more Advanced Placement courses each year at BLA, totaling seven while maintaining strong grades and many leadership roles within the school.
On the field, Jack is a natural leader and a versatile athlete who has left an indelible mark on BLA’s football and baseball programs. As a three-season starting quarterback, Jack has been the engine behind the team's steady resurgence. Under his leadership as a senior captain, Boston Latin Academy football had a strong 2025 season, dominating the Boston City League with a 6-0 record and finishing overall at 8-2, beating rivals like Boston Latin School, and making it to the MIAA Football Tournament. On the Baseball field, Jack's talent has earned him a commitment to play at the collegiate level for Denison University. His performance has consistently garnered respect across the city, earning him Player of the Week honors and Boston City-League All-Star selections in both football and baseball.
Jack’s impact extends far beyond the classroom and the playing field. He is deeply invested in the Boston community, particularly through sports-based service. He is committed to the Special Olympics; Jack regularly volunteers his time to support Special Olympics athletes, fostering an inclusive environment for all competitors. He remains an active part of the school's athletic culture even in his "off" seasons, volunteering to run the scoreboard and serve as the public address announcer for the boys' basketball home games.
Jack Shapiro is the quintessential representative of the student-athlete ideal. Over his six years at Boston Latin Academy, he has evolved into a pillar of the school community. Recently recognized by the Boston Globe for his achievements, Jack’s legacy is not just one of wins and losses, but of character, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine desire to give back.
