Harolyn Castillo of Pittsfield High School: Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2025

Posted: January 5, 2026

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to name Harolyn Castillo, a senior at Pittsfield High School, as its Student of the Month for the month of December 2025.

Harolyn defines the "student" in student-athlete. As a member of the National Honor Society, she maintains a rigorous academic schedule while holding multiple leadership roles that shape the culture at Pittsfield High. Harolyn is a Link Leader, serving as a vital bridge for incoming freshmen, and is an active voice in Class Council and the Pep Club. Her commitment to inclusivity is further evidenced by her work with Best Buddies and Leaders in Action, where she advocates for a supportive and unified school environment.

As an athlete, Harolyn is a testament to her endurance, versatility, and elite skill level across two varsity sports.  A four-year varsity starter in basketball, Harolyn has been the heartbeat of the Generals' court. Her teammates recognized her natural leadership early, voting her Co-Captain for both her junior and senior seasons. On January 24th, 2026, Harolyn cemented her legacy by scoring her 1,000th career point, a milestone that reflects years of discipline and scoring dominance. Since her freshman year, Harolyn has anchored the defense as the Varsity Goalie on the soccer team. Her four-year tenure in the net has been defined by her communication skills, quick reflexes, and the mental toughness required to play one of the most high-pressure positions on the field.

Harolyn’s influence extends far beyond the gym. She is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of Pittsfield residents through several key initiatives: She volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club, teaching the fundamentals of basketball, and works with the Pittsfield Soccer Club (PSC) to run youth tournaments and provide technical skills mentoring.  Recognizing the challenges of moving to high school, Harolyn works with Herberg Middle School 8th graders, providing the guidance and mentorship necessary for a successful transition.  At Hancock Shaker Village, Harolyn supports elementary and middle school-aged children through animal therapy programs, showcasing her empathy and range of service.

The MIAA congratulates Harolyn and the entire Pittsfield community.
