Fall 2025 State Championship Lookahead: Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer
MIAA Fall 2025 state champions already have been crowned in multiple sports -- Golf, Swimming, Field Hockey, Volleyball and Cross Country.
Now it is time for Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer teams to step into the spotlight. Ten more championship trophies -- five Boys Soccer and five Girls Soccer -- will be handed out beginning with a pair of title games Friday night at Doyle Field in Leominster, and continuing Saturday, November 22 with a pair of four-game slates at Doyle Field and Curry College (Milton).
Here is a look at what is ahead:
Boys Soccer
Division 4: Friday (4:45 p.m.) at Doyle Field
Bromfield School vs. Rockland High School
This matchup pits the most decorated Boys Soccer program in MIAA history with a school that has waited generations to get back to this stage.
No. 2 seed Bromfield holds MIAA Boys Soccer records for state finals appearances – this is No. 17 overall – as well as state championships (13). The Trojans were last here in 2022, when they beat Sutton (3-0) for the last of their record five consecutive state titles between 2017-22 (no state finals in 2020 because of COVID).
Meanwhile, No. 5 seed Rockland returns for the first time since 1985, when the Bulldogs were 3-1 overtime winners (no sudden victory) against Monument Mountain.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Bromfield – beat Bay Path (5-0), Ipswich (2-0), Abington (1-0 in 2 ot), Westport (3-0) … Rockland – beat Quaboag (8-0), Uxbridge (2-0), Ayer Shirley (2-1), Northbridge (3-2).
Division 5: Saturday (10 a.m.) at Curry College
Boston International High School vs. Hopedale Jr/Sr. High School
The first of two boys state finals pitting the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the bracket, this is also the only matchup of the day guaranteed to have a first-time winner.
No. 1 Boston International is the only one of the two teams to have been here before, having dropped a 3-0 decision to Bromfield in the 2017 final.
No. 2 seed Hopedale is making its first appearance in a state final.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Boston International – beat KIPP Academy (12-0), C.A.S.H. (2-1), Pioneer Charter School of Science I (6-1), Brighton (3-2) … Hopedale – beat Boston Collegiate Charter (3-1), Tech Boston (4-2), Dearborn STEM (2-0), Keefe Tech (3-2).
Division 1: Saturday (12:15 p.m.) at Doyle Field
Saint John’s Preparatory School vs. Natick High School
This matchup also pits the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the bracket.
No. 1 St. John’s Prep was last on this stage in 2022, when the Eagles secured their third state title with a 2-0 win over Needham. Prep is 3-1 all time in state finals, also with wins in 1994 (1-0 over Ludlow) and 2006 (4-1 over Algonquin).
It’s been a long wait for No. 2 Natick to get back to this point. The program’s only previous state final was in 1987, which ended in a 5-overtime loss to Springfield Cathedral (2-1).
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: St. John’s Prep – beat Algonquin (3-1), Lowell (1-0), Cambridge Rindge & Latin (4-1), Concord-Carlisle (4-2) … Natick – beat Leominster (5-2), Attleboro (3-2), BC High (2-1), Newton South (2-0).
Division 2: Saturday (4:45 p.m.) at Doyle Field
Duxbury High School vs. West Springfield High School
No. 4 seed Duxbury was a consistent participant in state finals before the turn of the century, but this will be the Dragons’ first appearance since 1999, when they grabbed a 1-0 win over Auburn. Duxbury is 8-2 all time in state championship games.
West Springfield, the No. 11 seed, has more recent success as a program. The Terriers won the Division 2 title in 2021 (2-0 over Canton) and are 4-0 all time in state finals.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Duxbury – beat Archbishop Williams (4-0), Stoughton (4-1), Holliston (4-0), Dartmouth (3-0) … West Springfield – beat Nashoba (4-0), Masconomet (1-0), Longmeadow (1-0), Northampton (1-0).
Division 3: Saturday (4:45 p.m.) at Curry College
Norwell High School vs. Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School
No. 2 seed Norwell is back in the state final, thanks in part to gaining some revenge for last year’s title game. The Clippers advanced with a 2-1 semifinal win over Dover-Sherborn after falling in the same matchup in last year’s title game (2-0). Norwell’s only previous championship was a 3-2 penalty kicks win over Belchertown in 2021.
Greater New Bedford, the No. 4 seed, is making its first state championship appearance.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Norwell – beat Assabet Valley (4-1), Pope Francis (1-0), Old Rochester (2-1 in ot), Dover-Sherborn (2-1) … Greater New Bedford – beat Auburn (2-1), Watertown (4-2), Chicopee (3-1), Scituate (3-1).
Girls Soccer
Division 4: Friday (7 p.m.) at Doyle Field
Sutton High School vs. Littleton High School
This matchup is a classic contrast between the most decorated Girls Soccer program in MIAA history and a total newcomer.
No. 1 seed Sutton has won a championship every year in the statewide tournament era, including back-to-back Division 4 wins last year (2-0 over Hamilton-Wenham) and 2023 (2-1 over South Hadley). This is the Suzies’ record 17th championship appearance in all and they have won titles in four different divisions, including Division 5 crowns in 2021 and 2022.
For No. 6 seed Littleton, this will be the first championship appearance in program history.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Sutton – beat Sturgis Charter West (6-0), Manchester Essex (5-0), Lunenburg (4-0), Cohasset (1-0) … Littleton – beat Ipswich (5-1), Tahanto (2-0), South Hadley (2-1 in ot), Southwick (3-1).
Division 1: Saturday (10 a.m.) at Doyle Field
Natick High School vs. Franklin High School
Now in Year 5 of the statewide tournament, Natick has been to a state final in each of the odd-numbered years. The No. 4 seed Redhawks were winners in 2021 (3-2 over Hingham) and 2023 (2-0 over Bishop Feehan), and the program’s only other title appearance was a 1-0 penalty kicks loss to Wachusett in 2018.
Franklin, the No. 6 seed, won in its only other previous appearance, when the Panthers topped Nashoba (2-1) in 2012.
This is the only rematch of a regular-season game, as the teams battled to a 3-3 draw on Sept. 24.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Natick – beat Boston Latin (5-0), Westford Academy (2-1 in ot), Braintree (3-0), Belmont (5-0) … Franklin – beat Shrewsbury (4-2), Lincoln-Sudbury (2-1), Hopkinton (4-3), Concord-Carlisle (2-0).
Division 5: Saturday (12:15 p.m.) at Curry College
Hull High School vs. Monson High School
No. 3 seed Hull is back in the state final for the second time in as many years, and the Pirates will be looking for a better result after falling short against Douglas a year ago (3-2).
Monson, the No. 4 seed, made back-to-back appearances in 2022 and ‘23, with a 4-0 win over Whitinsville Christian in the latter. This is the Mustangs’ seventh appearance overall (tied for third all time) – all since 2008 – including a 3-2 win over East Bridgewater in 2015.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Hull – beat Smith Academy (9-1), Boston Collegiate Charter (6-0), Nashoba Tech (6-2), Hopedale (1-0) … Monson – beat Franklin County Tech (4-0), Holbrook (7-0), St. John Paul II (5-1), Granby (2-1 in 2 ot).
Division 2: Saturday (2:30 p.m.) at Doyle Field
Duxbury High School vs. Longmeadow High School
This is one of two girls matchups that pits the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the bracket.
No. 1 seed Duxbury already scored some revenge to get here, having dropped a 5-0 decision to Masconomet in the 2024 final. The Dragons reached championship weekend by holding off Masconomet, 2-1, in the state semifinal rematch. Duxbury is 3-2 all time in finals, with its last win coming in 2008 (2-1 over Wahconah in overtime).
Longmeadow, the No. 2 seed, is in a state final for the first time in program history.
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Duxbury – beat Bedford (3-0), Minnechaug (6-2), East Longmeadow (6-0), Masconomet (2-1) … Longmeadow – beat Silver Lake (3-1), North Quincy (2-0), Marblehead (3-1), King Philip (4-2).
Division 3: Saturday (2:30 p.m.) at Curry College
Medfield High School vs. Nipmuc Regional High School
Also a 1-vs.-2 matchup, this is the only one of the weekend – girls or boys – that is a rematch from the 2024 state finals.
No. 1 seed Medfield will be looking for a better result after dropping a 1-0 decision to Nipmuc a year ago. The Warriors won their only other state final appearances in 2010 (4-0 over Auburn) and 2012 (3-1 over Belchertown).
No. 2 seed Nipmuc will be looking to keep its perfect streak of state finals going, having also previously won back-to-back in 2005 (5-1 over Dedham) and 2006 (2-1 over Cardinal Spellman), as well as 2014 (5-0 over Lynnfield).
ROAD TO THE STATE FINAL: Medfield – beat Ursuline (8-0), St. Mary’s (5-0), Tewksbury (10-1), Pope Francis (5-1) … Nipmuc – beat Pentucket (4-0), Foxboro (6-1), Dover-Sherborn (3-1), Norwell (1-0).
