Division 2 Sectional Golf Championships: History For Hanover, Tantasqua; Canton Back On Top In North

Posted: October 14, 2025

The 2025 MIAA Division 2 Fall Golf Sectional Championships began on October 14, and two schools made history by winning their first Fall Golf championships in program history, one in the South and the other in the West. Meanwhile, the Division 2 North champion was back atop the podium for the first time in four years.

The Division 2 Central tournament will be played October 15 at Heritage Country Club in Charlton.

Qualifying teams from each section will advance to the Division 2 State Championship on October 20 at Foxborough Country Club. In addition, any individuals in the top 10 percent (plus ties) in their respective sectional tournaments also will advance.

Here is a look at the action:

Division 2 South

Zac Georgantas had some company atop the leaderboard this time around, but Hanover High School was all alone in making history.

Hanover finished with a team score of 36-over at Lebaron Hills Country Club in Lakeville as the Hawks captured the first Fall Golf sectional championship in school history.

Meanwhile, Georgantas followed up his D2 South individual title from 2024 with a 3-over-par 75, but shared medalist honors this time around with Joe Mulvey of Scituate High School and Mason Ball of Norton High School.

Mulvey led the runner-up effort for Scituate (38-over), but the Sailors couldn’t catch their Patriot League rivals. Joe DaCosta was the top finisher for Hanover in a tie for sixth (7-over 79), and the Hawks also had Owen Crowley and Cam Melone in a pack at T-10 (9-over 81). Cole Madden’s 11-over 83 (T-19) clinched the team title for Hanover.

Max St. Aubin of Nauset Regional High School was fourth (5-over 77), a stroke ahead of teammate Oliver Smith in fifth (6-over 78). DaCosta was tied with Charlie Rosa of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, with Matt Monahan of Scituate and Jacoby Light of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School at T-8 (8-over 80).

Division 2 West

Sam Pieczynski shot a 2-over par 73 at Chicopee Country Club and Tantasqua Regional High School unseated defending champion Pope Francis Preparatory School, giving the Warriors their first Fall Golf championship in program history. The school's last Golf championship came in 1995, when it was a Spring sport.

Tantasqua finished at 39-over, 3 strokes ahead of Pope Francis (+42). South Hadley High School was third (+52), with Leominster High School and Mount Greylock Regional School tied for fourth (+57).

Pieczynski was joined in the team scoring by Tantasqua teammates Wyatt Fay (T-9, 11-over 82), Drew Bardsley (T-14, 12-over 83) and Lucas Tully (T-22, 14-over 85). That was just enough cushion to outlast Pope Francis, as the Cardinals were led by Tanner Kmetz in a tie for fifth (8-over 79).

Mount Greylock’s Jacob Hillman was second (5-over 76), 3 shots back of Pieczynski. South Hadley teammates Ryan MacGregor and Caiden Drohan tied for third (7-over 78), and Kmetz was matched by Sam McLaughlin of Wahconah Regional High School. Tying for seventh at 9-over 80 were Kesler Anello of Wahconah and Brady Wood of Frontier Regional School.

Division 2 North

Canton High School had little trouble with the par-71 Bradford Country Club course in Haverhill, placing four golfers in the top five and securing the program’s first sectional title in four years.

While Masconomet Regional High School’s Brendan O’Connor was the top individual with his 1-over 71, the Bulldogs filled the next four spots on the leaderboard. Mason Wachtendonk was second overall (2-over 73), followed by Harrison Weitz (3-over 74) and Chase Thomas (4-over 75). With Joey Ryan in a three-way tie for fifth (5-over 76), that gave Canton a team score of 14-over 298 that was 12 shots clear of runner-up Masconomet (26-over 310).

Cooper Wassung of Masconomet joined Ryan at T-5 along with Robby Marrigan of Billerica Memorial High School, which finished third as a team (32-over 316). Newburyport High School was fourth (320) and Reading Memorial High School fifth (321).

Jack Dunn of Milton High School and Micah Hashikawa of Saint Mary’s High School were tied for eighth (6-over 77).
