Alex Weber of Franklin High School: Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2026
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce Alex Weber, a senior at Franklin High School, as its Student of the Month for the month of January. Alex is the definition of a "student-first" athlete and has built a reputation as a conscientious leader who balances a rigorous academic load with elite-level athletic performance and a deep commitment to his school community.
For Alex, the "student" in student-athlete always takes precedence. He approaches his education with a blue-collar work ethic, maintaining perfect daily attendance and showing up to every class ready to engage. He does not shy away from rigor, consistently enrolling in Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework. His ability to manage the demands of high-level academics while leading multiple varsity programs is a testament to his discipline and time-management skills.
Athletically, Alex is a standout figure in the Hockomock League, known as much for his physical toughness as his strategic mind on the field. As a multi-sport captain, he leads by example, earning the respect of teammates and opponents alike. His role as an MIAA Student Ambassador for the past two years further highlights his dedication to the values of sportsmanship and peer leadership. His career highlights and accolades include the 2024 and 2025 Hockomock League All-Star (Football): Recognized as one of the premier talents in one of the state's most competitive conferences.
Alex’s influence at Franklin High School extends far beyond the turf or the rink. He is a trusted voice within the athletic department, having been selected to serve on multiple coach hiring committees, where he provided the crucial student-perspective in selecting the next generation of FHS leaders. Furthermore, Alex is a staple in the community through his participation in team-based service. He has been a consistent volunteer for te Franklin Boys’ Lacrosse Service Initiatives: Helping grow the game at the youth level and supporting local town events. He is also involved in the Ice Hockey Community Outreach: Participating in various charitable efforts organized by the hockey program to give back to the Franklin community.
This letter was also received from a visiting team during the football season and highlights Alex’ commitment to always doing the right thing:
"Hi Ms. Ellis, my name is Jon Sweeney and I am the Linebackers Coach for the Leominster High School Football Program. I am reaching out because we have a few elderly men who come to all our games. One in particular needs alot of help getting out of his car and back and forth from the field. The coaching staff and players usually help him. Last night everyone was excited after the game, and when we went looking for him we saw your running back number 5 (I believe his name is Alex Weber) walking him by his arm through the tunnel to his car! I thought this was an extraordinary display character and strength by this young man! He had just lost a playoff game where he played his heart out, and played well, but still found the strength to help a elderly man in support of the other team, who very much needs the assistance get to his car safely! This was one of the best things I have witnessed in 17 years of coaching and teaching! I thought you and his parents should be made aware of this young man's act of kindness and just an awesome display of character. Since I don't know how to get in contact with his parents, maybe you could let them know! As a parent I would want to know! Have a great rest of your weekend."
Sincerely,
Jon Sweeney
The MIAA congratulates Alex and the entire Franklin community.
