2026 Spring Golf Championships: Westford Academy's Maddie Smith a Familiar Winner; Walpole Earns First Title
Maddie Smith of Westford Academy shot a 1-over-par 73 to capture medalist honors in the 2026 MIAA Spring Golf Championships held Monday, June 1 at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.
Meanwhile, Walpole High School followed up its South sectional championship a few days earlier with the program’s first state championship. The Timberwolves shot a combined 368 to put them 17 shots clear of North/Central/West champion Hopkinton High School (385).
Smith finished 2 shots ahead of Cecily Henshon of Longmeadow High School and joined her older sister Molly Smith, the 2023 state champion, in the winner’s circle. Alison Walshe (2003) was the other Westford Academy individual champion.
Walpole’s championship effort was led by Tori Adams, who shot +13 to tie for 13th place. Also scoring for the Timberwolves were Jackie Keefe (T-23, +19) and Juliet Massey (25th, +23), while Deana Nosal and Gretchen Connelly both were tied for 28th.
Smith and Henshon were well ahead of the rest of the pack, which was led by Georgia Beland of Notre Dame Academy (Worcester) in third place at +9. In a three-way tie for fourth place at +11 were Callie Crean of Hingham High School, Lauren Connor of Westfield High School, and Charlotte Rollins of Masconomet Regional High School.
Six golfers tied for seventh place at +12: Hanley Correia of Bishop Feehan High School, Sophie Redmond of Concord-Carlisle, Olivia Jatczak of Cape Cod Academy, Rebecca Kriegsman of Ashland High School, Rory Herrick of Tantasqua Regional Senior High School, and Alyssa Paine of Scituate High School.
