2026 MIAA Nordic Ski Championships: Mount Greylock Continues Dominance; Brookline Gets Another Individual Win
The 2026 MIAA Nordic Ski Championships were held Tuesday, February 10 at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt., with individual and team champions crowned in both Girls and Boys divisions.
Here is a recap of the action:
Girls
Mount Greylock Regional School continued its recent dominance on the trails, bringing home the program’s third consecutive state championship.
The Mounties placed three skiers in the top eight overall and all four scorers in the top 15 to finish with 31 points. That was well clear of runner-up Brookline High School, which led a much tighter chase pack with 70 points. Mohawk Trail Regional School and Winchester High School each scored 74, with Mohawk taking third based on a better fifth-place individual.
Brookline did come away with the individual champion for the second time in as many years. Leigh Niedeck dominated the competition, covering the 5-kilometer Prospect course in 22 minutes, 51.6 seconds. Her next closest competitor was teammate Rachael Strock in 24:19.5.
Lauren Miller’s third (24:25.6) started Mount Greylock’s surge to another team championship. The Mounties added a fifth from Josephine Bay (24:44.0) and an eighth from Bridget Holland (25:02.2), with Rachel Miller rounding out the scoring in 16th place (26:12.5).
Caroline Lanz of WInchester High School took fourth (24:36.7). Mohawk Trail had a pair of skiers in the top 10, as Charlotte Niswonger placed sixth (24:55.6) and Ada Corner eighth (25:00.8).
Also finishing in the top 10 were April Padilla-Hrones of Natick High School in seventh (24:58.1) and Lucy Reiner of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in 10th (25:27.7).
Boys
Mount Greylock was just as dominant on this side in making it back-to-back state championships. The Mounties also had the individual champion as Patrick Holland finished in 19:49.9, just ahead of Wahconah Regional High School’s Beau Sanders (19:55.0).
Like the girls team, Mount Greylock placed three skiers in the top eighth finishers to secure a comfortable win with 28 points, well ahead of runner-up Wahconah’s 63. Concord-Carlisle High School took third (69), followed by Amherst-Pelham Regional High School (77).
Benjamin Mandel took seventh (20:45.0) and Luke Irwin eighth (20:59.8) for the Mounties, and Nathan Gill finished off the team championship by crossing in 14th place (21:38.7).
Also placing in the top 10 individuals were: Zachary Scopinich-Burgel of Concord-Carlisle (third, 19:59.0); Dashiell Martin of Newton South High School (fourth, 20:01.9); Matthew Krieger of Acton-Boxborough/Nashoba (fifth, 20:30.0); Calvin Miller of Amherst (sixth, 20:43.2); Chaz Mahar of Wahconah (ninth, 21:24.5); and Augustus Niswonger of Mohawk Trail (10th, 21:25.0).
