2026 MIAA Gymnastics Championships: Newton North Scores Long-Awaited Victory; Westborough's Guari Sharma Tops All-Around

Newton North High School posted the top team score on three of the four apparatus, and had two individuals in the top seven of the All-Around competition to take home the 2026 MIAA Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, February 28 at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough.

Newton North posted the top score on the uneven bars (36.250) and beam (37.300), also shared the top score in the vault (37.025). Adding a second place on the floor (35.500), the Tigers finished with a team score of 146.075 to edge defending champion Masconomet Regional High School.

While the Tigers were securing the school’s first gymnastics championship since 1972, Guari Sharma of Westborough High School secured the All-Around championship. Despite not placing first on any apparatus, Sharma finished with a total score of 37.900, just ahead of runner-up Kallie McCarthy of Central Catholic High School (37.800).

Sharma was second on both the vault (9.775) and beam (9.700), and tied fo second on the floor (9.450). She rounded out the day with a ninth-place finish on the bars (8.975).

Lexie Masters of Wilmington/Bedford was third in the All-Around (37.775), which included the top score on the bars (9.450). Sarah Aldrich of Masconomet was fourth (37.475) with the winning score on the other three apparatus – vault (9.825), beam (9.850) and floor (9.800).

Leading Newton North’s winning effort was Neharika Jayanth, who took fifth in the All-Around (37.000). Tigers teammate Lucia Grapski placed seventh (36.700).

Rounding out the top 10 of the All-Around were: Dylan Gaffny of Marlborough High School (sixth, 36.800); Lindsay Woodbury of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School (eighth, 36.025); Kate Mugge of Masconomet (ninth, 36.000); and Alexis Ciavardone of Andover/North Reading (10th, 36.000).
