2026 MIAA Girls Winter Swimming and Diving State Championships: Three in a Row for Concord-Carlisle, Weston
The 2026 MIAA Girls Winter Swimming and Diving Championships were held Saturday, February 14 at MIT's Zesiger Center.
Here is a recap of the action:
Division 1
Concord-Carlisle High School maintained its grasp on the state championship trophy, winning for the third consecutive year.
The Patriots had just two first-place finishes, but performed well throughout the lineup to compile 283 points. Amherst-Pelham Regional High School was the only close challenger, taking second with 244.
Freshman Audrey Herz was the winner of the diving competition (465.850 points) for Concord-Carlisle, which got its other first from senior Sarah Fortier in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 8.88 seconds).
Senior Bea Turrettini placed third in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, freshman Polly Curran was third in the 200-yard individual medley, and freshman Aela Bruno third in the 100 breaststroke. The Patriots also were second in the 200 freestyle relay and third in the 400 freestyle relay.
Amherst-Pelham made its push behind wins in the 200 medley relay (seniors Rowan Albertson, Teagen Demers and Audrey Spiridopoulos, and eighth-grader Emory Albertson – 1:49.52) and 400 freestyle relay (Demers, senior Finnley Chambers, Emory Albertson and Rowan Albertson – 3:39.08). Rowan Albertson had seconds in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle for the Hurricanes, and Emory Albertson was third in the 100 backstroke.
Senior Lilah Doherty of Longmeadow High School and senior Feining Huang of Sharon High School were double-winners. Doherty captured the 50 freestyle (23.73) and 100 butterfly (55.65), while Huang was first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.19) and 100 backstroke (55.8).
Other winners included: senior Makayla Ellis of Westfield High School (200 IM, 2:09.86); senior Kayden McGobbon of Grafton High School (100 freestyle, 51.9); and freshman Olivia Parent of Minnechaug Regional High School (500 freestyle, 4:55.72). Longmeadow also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.17) with Doherty, junior Izabella Strebel, Chloe Anderson and junior Emillia Szyluk.
Division 2
Weston High School made it three consecutive state championships, but it took every bit of a team effort for the Wildcats to hold off runner-up Wayland High School.
Despite not winning a single event, Weston finished with 262 points, just edging out Wayland’s 257. Seekonk High School was well back in third place (189), followed by Dover-Sherborn High School (179).
Senior Kate Krueger was the top individual for Weston, taking second in the 200 IM (2:08.11) and 500 freestyle (5:06.41). Freshman Philina Zhou added a second in the 100 backstroke (59.14), and the Wildcats also were third in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.83) and 400 freestyle relay (3:47.79).
Wayland’s push for the top of the podium was led by sophomore Maya Pereira, who won the 500 freestyle (24.31) and was second in the 100 free. The Warriors also won the 200 medley relay (senior Cara Hill, sophomore Izzy Irwin, Pereira, and freshman Rinnah Shulman – 1:49.39) and the 200 freestyle relay (Hill, junior Grace Oppenheim, Pereira, and Shulman – 1:40.16).
Junior Lydia Craft led Seekonk by winning the 200 IM (2:05.58) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.18). Belchertown High School freshman Natalie Parent also was a double-winner in the 100 butterfly (59.28) and 100 backstroke (58.35).
Seekonk finished the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay with sophomore Bonnie Arrigo, junior Emily Tonini, eighth-grader Avery Abreu, and Craft (3:41.25).
Other individual champions were: Bromfield School freshman Eliana Laham in the 200 freestyle (1:53.66); Norwell-South Shore senior Maddie Reif in the diving (463.80); Medfield-Norwood freshman Samantha Lee in the 100 freestyle (53.34); and Greater Lowell Technical School’s Avarie Nadeau in the 500 freestyle (5:05.34).
