2026 MIAA Girls Indoor Track Championships: Lexington Repeats; Lunenburg Makes History; Westford Academy, Milton, Weston On Top
The 2026 MIAA Girls Indoor Track Championships were held February 11-15 at the TRACK at New Balance, the first year the venue has hosted MIAA Championship events.
Here is a recap of the action:
Division 1
Propeled by a pair of individual wins from sophomore Amelia Whorton, Lexington High School dominated the rest of the competition and repeated as champion.
Whorton won the 1,000 (2:54.10) and mile (5:03.33) to help Lexington to a team total of 113, well ahead of Central Catholic High School and Newton North High School, which tied for second with 51.
Sophomore Jane Conrad also had a big day for Lexington, winning the 2-mile (11:09.47) and placing third in the mile (5:07.88). Senior Ainsley Cuthbertson added a first in the shot put (39-6), while senior Aubrey Deardorf (55 meters) and sophomore Ella Tyson (2-mile) had seconds. Lexington also won the 4x800 (9:40.59) with sophomores Cecilia Kvaal and Natalie Bielat, junior Erin Ehmann, and Whorton.
Natick High School senior Chloe Elder was another double-winner, taking the 300 (40.02) and 600 (1:33.47).
Freshman Avery Strickler led Central Catholic to its co-runner-up spot, winning the long jump (17-7) and finishing third in the 300 (41.04). Strickler also ran anchor as the Raiders also won the 4x400 (4:01.44), which also included sophomore Kyla Breslin, senior Emma Finch and freshman Leighton Hickey.
Newton North won the 4x200 (1:44.91) with junior Sophie Finkelstein, and seniors Isabella Mangada, Penny Blumenthal and Brooke Bennett. The Tigers also were second in the 4x400.
Division 2
Sparked by a pair of victories from senior Abigail Hennessy, Westford Academy earned the program’s first divisional state championship since 2008.
Hennessy won both the 1,000 (2:50.22) and 2-mile (10:56.21) to spark the Ghosts to 65 points and end Wellesley’s near-decade long stranglehold on the top spot in the team standings.
Westford also got wins from freshman Madeleine O’Lalor in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and freshman Kaitlyn Baokye-Yiadom in the long jump (18-1.5). Senior Emily Wedlake placed third in the mile (5:06.1), and the Ghosts also placed second in the 4x800 (9:44.52).
Billerica Memorial High School was the closest finisher (59 points), led by wins from sophomore Lily McGrory in the 55-meter hurdles (8.82) and senior Kylie Donahue in the mile (5:02.2). The Indians also were winners of the 4x800 (9:39.27) with Kylie Donahue, sophomore Caitlyn Donahue, eighth-grader Maya Niles and freshman Evelyn Wesling.
For Wellesley, which had won every Division 2 crown from 2017-2025 (minus 2021, no state tournaments because of COVID), senior Kayla Bohlin took gold in the 600 (1:36.22) and the Raiders also prevailed in the 4x400 (4:09.09).
Division 3
Milton High School used three individual victories and a relay title to earn its first division championship since 2018.
The Wildcats finished with 54.5 points thanks to first-place finishes from junior Annaliese Aguilar in the 55-meter hurdles (8.51), sophomore Grace Danielson in the 1,000 (3:02.54), and junior Ella Turner in the high jump (5-4). Milton also took home first in the 4x200 (1:45.34) with the foursome of juniors Danaya Sweeney and Grace McDonough, sophomore Sasha Bezy, and Aguilar.
Melrose High School was second in the team standings with 50 points, followed by Bedford High School (42), Duxbury High School (38), and Oliver Ames High School (35).
Senior Keoni Savoie of Tantasqua Regional High School was the individual star, capturing gold in the 55 meters (7.04) and 300 meters (40.39).
For Melrose, senior Emeline Boyer won the shot put and the Red Raiders also were first in the 4x800 (10:06.49) with senior Naomi Breay, junior Reilly Powell, sophomore Nora McCormack, and junior Ella Yorkey.
Bedford senior Zadie Buckley took first in the 600 (1:35.94), and Duxbury won the 4x400 (4:06.8) with senior Amelie Sellitto, freshman Emma MacDonald, and juniors Riley Earle and Liv Coperine.
Division 4
Weston High School got its only first place in the 4x800, but the Wildcats used their depth to secure the program’s first team title since back-to-back Division 5 crowns in 2022 and 2023.
The foursome of junior Izzy Wheler, seniors Anne Moser and Jessica Bourne, and freshman Leksi Sullivan secured the win in the 4x800 (9:51.86) as Weston finished with 49 points, well ahead of Wayland High School (36). Amherst-Pelham Regional High School was third (33.5) and Foxborough High School fourth (33).
Weston earned key points from a second place by senior Solana Varela in the 300 (40.96), and thirds from Bourne in the 1,000 (3:04.17) and Sullivan in the mile (5:07.79). The Wildcats also were second in the 4x400.
Junior Sazie Wrentmore’s double-win sparked Wayland. Wrentmore won the 600 meters (1:37.39) and long jump (17-5.75), and also took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.47).
Amherst-Pelham freshman Tansy Warwick was first in the high jump (5-2), and the Hurricanes also won the 4x400 (4:11.21). Foxborough senior Lauren Bober was first in the 55 meters (7.23).
Division 5
Lunenburg High School picked up its only two victories in the relays, but that was enough for the Blue Knights to pull out the narrow victory and the school’s first indoor championship since 1972.
The foursome of seniors Karynna Long and Casey Corey, and sophomores Norah Brown and Sophia Viveiros captured the 4x400 in 4:16.92, and Lunenburg also had a victory in the 4x800 (10:09.28) with Viveiros, Corey, freshman Jill Dionne and junior Olivia Coronella. That was just enough to finish atop the standings ahead of Seekonk High School (40). Sutton High School was third (34) and Wilmington High School fourth (33).
Coronella was Lunenburg’s best individual finisher with a second in the 2-mile (11:42).
Senior Julianna Dutra nearly carried Seekonk to the team title with her double win in the 55 dash (7.34) and 300 (41.19). Senior Hayden Robinson added a victory in the 1,000 (3:02.08) for the Warriors.
