2026 MIAA Division 2 Fall Golf Championships: Wakefield's Patrick Maloney Wins in Playoff, Norton Back on Top

Posted: October 28, 2026

It was a day of firsts in the 2026 MIAA Division 2 Fall Golf Championships at Franklin Country Club.

Patrick Maloney of Wakefield Memorial High School prevailed in a two-way playoff to become the program’s first state tournament medalist. Meanwhile, Norton High School followed up its dominant Division 2 South championship a week earlier by grinding out the first state championship in team history.

Maloney played 18 holes on the Franklin course in 1-over-par 72, a score matched by Division 2 Central medalist Jai Moulton of Dover-Sherborn High School. The duo then matched scores over the first three playoff holes before Maloney set himself up with a tee shot within 4 feet of the pin on the 138-yard par-3 fourth hole. Maloney sank the putt to clinch the championship.

Meanwhile, Norton’s Evan Caldwell was 2-over 73 to tie for third individually and lead the Lancers’ historic win. Norton finished with a team score of 27-over-par 311, just ahead of runner-up Wakefield (+29, 313).

Adam Caldwell (7-over 78), Griffin Clary (8-over 79) and Mason Ball (10-over 81) were the other top four scorers for the Lancers.

Joe Mulvey of Scituate High School tied for third with Caldwell. One shot back in a three-way tie for fifth were Brendan O’Connor of Masconomet Regional High School, Tanner Kmetz of Easthampton High School, and Sam Luekens of Newburyport High School – all 3-over 74.

Rounding out the top 10 individuals were Jackson Shaughnessy (Medfield High School), Jacob Hillman (Mount Greylock Regional School) and Cooper Wassung (Mascomomet) – all 4-over 75 and tied for eighth.

Masconomet, the North sectional champion, placed third (+33, 317) followed by Mount Greylock (+35, 319) and Milton High School (+36, 320).
