2026 Division 2 Golf Sectionals: Medfield Makes History; Tantasqua Repeats; Masconomet, Norton Winners Again
The 2026 MIAA Division 2 Fall Golf sectionals were a mixed bag of championship experience. There was one new winner, and another on the big stage for the first time in more than a decade. Then there were two more recent entrants, including a repeat champion.
Division 2 Central
Only 3 shots separated the top five teams at Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge, but in the end it was Medfield High School that came out on top of the tight battle.
Jackson Shaughnessy shot an 8-over 80 to tie for fourth place and lead the Warriors to the first sectional crown in program history. Medfield finished at 47-over-par 335, just 1 shot ahead of Tri-Valley League rival Norwood High School (+48). Archbishop Williams High School was another shot back and the final state tournament qualifier, with Nashoba Regional High School and Dover-Sherborn High School tied for fourth at +50.
Jai Moulton of Dover-Sherborn won an equally tight battle for medalist, shooting a 6-over 78. Nolan Englehardt of Nashoba, the 2025 co-medalist, was a stroke back at 7-over 79 and tied with Brayden Finn of Bedford High School.
Helping Medfield to the team title were Kevin Nee and Charlie Smits, both 12-over 84 and tied for 12th, and Harrison Oremus at 15-over 87 (T-26th).
Shaughnessy was matched by Nathan DiSchino of Shawsheen Valley Tech in fourth. Rounding out the top individuals were: Max Conley of Norwood and John Donovan of Archbishop Williams in a tie for sixth (+9, 81); Jake Matros of Marlborough High School and Gabe Deters of Whitinsville Christian School in a tie for eighth (+10, 82); and Connor Finn of Archbishop Williams and Kellen Mahoney of Blue Hills Regional Technical School in a tie for 10th (+11, 83).
Division 2 North
For the third consecutive year, Masconomet Regional High School had the medalist in the sectional tournament. The difference this time is that the rest of the Chieftains squad added to the big day at Bradford Country Club. Led by Hayes Maher’s 1-under-par 70 to share the top spot, Masconomet earned its first sectional championship since 2011.
Mayer shared medalist honors with Jack Oreal of Newburyport High School. Cooper Wassung tied for fourth (1-over 72), and 2025 medalist Brendan O’Connor shot a 2-over 73 to tie for seventh. Add in an 8-over 79 for Henry Tissera (T-26th) and that was enough for Masconomet to post a 10-over 294 and edge past Newburyport by 6 shots.
Milton High School was third (18-over 302). There was a tie for fourth at 22-over 306, but thanks to a better fifth place score from James Maloney (12-over 83), Wakefield Memorial High School earned the tiebreaker over 2025 state champion Canton High School.
Sam Field of Reading Memorial High School was third (even-par 71), and Canton’s Chase Thomas shared fourth with Masco’s Wassung and Essex North Shore Agricultural’s Landon Pelletier.
O’Connor, Wakefield’s Michael Yainacopoulos and Milton’s Ben Twitchell tied for seventh, with Canton’s Harrison Weitz and Billerica Memorial High School’s Robby Marrigan each another shot back (3-over 74) and tied for 10th.
Division 2 South
After a one-year hiatus, Norton High School returned to the top of the leaderboard in dominant fashion. Led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Griffin Clary and Evan Caldwell, the Lancers finished with a team score of 24-over 312 at Segregansett Country Club in Taunton.
Oliver Smith of Nauset Regional High School earned medalist with a 3-over 75. Right behind him were Clary and Caldwell in a four-way tie for second place with Harry Prince of Bishop Stang High School and Jack Sutliffe of Duxbury High School, all at 4-over 76.
Norton placed its four scorers in the top 10 as Mason Ball tied for seventh (7-over 79) and Cole O’Connell tied for ninth (9-over 81). That gave the Lancers more than enough cushion on team runner-up Nauset, which was 20 shots back at 332. Hanover High School (+49, 337) and Scituate High School (+51, 339) also qualified for the state championship from the 15-team sectional.
Thomas Dunne sparked Hanover, finishing alone in sixth place at 5-over 77. Jonny Abban of Pembroke High School shared seventh with Ball, and Jacoby Light of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School was tied with O’Connell.
Division 2 West
It wasn’t hard to figure out the scoring for Tantasqua Regional High School in its sectional championship repeat. The Warriors finished with a 36-over 324, split evenly between four different golfers at 9-over 81, and earned a 2-shot victory at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.
Mount Greylock took second overall, thanks to the 1-2 punch of medalist Rodric Rustay (3-over 75) and Jacob Hillman (6-over 78). But the Mounties couldn’t match Tantasqua’s depth and balance.
Andrew Weeden, Tyler Phillips, Connor Howe and Wyatt Fay were among six golfers at 81 in a tie for ninth place for Tantasqua.
Three golfers tied for third at 7-over 79: Tanner Kmetz of Easthampton High School; Brayden Fennessy of Hampshire Regional High School; and Logan Aitken of Wahconah Regional High School. Then there was another three-way tie for sixth (8-over 80) between Kesler Anello of Wahconah, Andrew Wright of Belchertown High School, and Andrew Silver of St. Bernard’s High School.
Jason Fields (Pittsfield High School) and Davin Hjelm (Leominster High School) mixed with the Tantasqua foursome in the tie for ninth.
St. Bernard’s was the other team qualifier, taking third place (+45, 333).
