2026 Division 1 Golf Sectionals: Repeat Victories for St. John's, BC High, Xaverian, Longmeadow
The more things change, the more they stay the same – at least when it comes to MIAA Division 1 sectional golf.
All four 2026 sectional champions were repeat winners, and the Catholic Conference continued its dominance with three titles. Saint John’s High School rolled again in Division 1 Central, while Boston College High School (North) and Xaverian Brothers High School (South) also cleaned up.
The other repeat winner was Longmeadow High School, which made it back-to-back crowns in the West and three in four years.
Division 1 Central
Saint John’s High continued its reign over the sectional tournament, taking home the trophy for the seventh year in a row in dominating fashion.
The Pioneers placed three individual golfers in the top five, led by a runner-up share from Kyle Post, and finished with a team score of 6-over 294 to overwhelm the competition at Kettle Brook Golf Club in Paxton.
Max Zides of North Attleborough High School was the only golfer ahead of Post, his 1-under-par 71 taking home medalist honors – the first ever for the Red Rocketeers. Post was tied for second with Jake Damiani-Lessard of Chelmsford High School, both a stroke back at even-par 72.
St. John’s teammates Wyatt Rue and Lukas Schleyer tied for fourth place at 1-over 73 as the Pioneers finished 14 shots clear of the next closest competitor. Eli Peck tied for 12th (4-over 76) to round out the St. John’s scoring.
Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School was second at +20 (308), followed by Concord-Carlisle High School (+22, 310), Chelmsford (+23, 311), and Franklin High School (+26, 314).
There was a tie for sixth place at 2-over 74 between Lincoln Frisoli of North Attleborough and Ben Burgess of Franklin. Also qualifying for the state tournament was a group of four tied for eighth place: Jake Erston of Concord-Carlisle, Lincoln-Sudbury teammates Jack Ables and Morgan Premock, and Josh Curtis of Shrewsbury High School – all at 3-over 75.
Division 1 North
Boston College High School repeated as sectional champion at Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown, as Henry Bizzozero and Jack Baldinelli each were part of a three-way tie for second to lead the Eagles.
Owen Shea of Arlington High School shot 2-over 74 and earned medalist honors, the first for the Spy Ponders since 2021. Bizzozero and Baldinelli each were 2 shots back along with Tyler Fawaz of North Andover High School at 4-over 76.
BC High shot a combined 22-over 310 and finished 7 shots ahead of runner-up Belmont High School (+29, 317). Saint John’s Preparatory School was another shot back in third place (+30, 318).
There was a three-way tie for fifth place (5-over 77) between Will Jackmin of Belmont, Luke Gilman of Arlington, and Kevin Cullity of Malden Catholic High School. Tyler McMahon of Newton South High School was alone in eighth place (6-over 78).
Grayson Bohane and Matt Casey of BC High were part of a group of 10 golfers tied for ninth place overall to complete the scoring for the Eagles. Joining them were: Vincent Giamino (Andover High School); AJ Bodnar (St. John’s Prep); Max Weil (Brookline High School); Seamus O’Holleran (St. John’s Prep); LB Manning (St. John’s Prep); Tyler Chin-Aleong (Beverly High School); Tahl Zuker-Jewhurst (Brookline); and George Longnecker (Boston Latin School).
Division 1 South
Michael McCormack of Xaverian Brothers High School shared medalist honors and moved the Hawks a step closer to defending their 2025 state championship while locking up a third consecutive sectional championship at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton.
McCormack and Aarav Lavu of Wellesley High School had matching cards of 1-over 71, one better than 2025 state champion Chris Morrow of Xaverian (2-over 72).
McCormack and Morrow were joined by Tucker Pierce (8th, 5-over 75) and Luke Edgar (T-9th, 6-over 76) to give the Hawks a team score of 14-over 294. Wellesley was second at 21-over 301.
The drama was in the tie for third between Hingham High School and Braintree High School, both at 31-over 311. Sebby Arata’s fifth-place score of 81 for Hingham gave the Harbormen the tiebreaker and state tournament berth.
Adrian Daigle helped Wellesley’s runner-up finish with a 3-over 73, tied for fourth with Braintree’s AJ Platek. The Wamps also got a T-6th from Luke Nguyen (+4, 74), matched by Alec Williams of Natick High School.
Zachary Barrett of Oliver Ames High School and Taylor Pan of Wellesley matched Xaverian’s Edgar in the tie for ninth.
Division 1 West
Longmeadow High School put two golfers in the top five at Northern Spy Golf Club in Townsend and made it back-to-back sectional titles, cruising to a 16-stroke victory.
Wesley Paine did not repeat his 2025 first-place finish, instead settling for third with a 5-over 75. Lancers teammate Connor Henrey tied for fourth at 6-over 76 with Wachusett Regional High School’s Ricky Narain as the Lancers shot a team total of 30-over 310.
The new medalist is Jacob Carvalho of Ludlow High School, who fired a 1-over 71 and finished 2 strokes ahead of runner-up Aidan Donahue of Auburn High School (3-over 73).
Brady Klinakis of Agawam High School was alone in sixth place (8-over 79) but the next three spots all belonged to Longmeadow. Burleigh Grant was seventh (9-over 79), and teammates Jack Arnold and Leigh Chapman shared eighth with 10-over 80s.
That paved the way for Longmeadow’s decisive team victory, with Auburn the next closest competitor (+46, 326). Wachusett took third as a team (+52, 332).
