2026 Boys Outdoor Track and Field Championships: Walpole, Weston Make It Three; Victories for St. John's Prep, North Andover, Newburyport, Abington

The 2026 MIAA Boys Outdoor Track and Field Championships were hosted between Thursday, May 28 and Sunday, May 31 at Merrimack College, Bridgewater State University and Westfield State University. Each site hosted two divisions, with each championship meet covering two days.

Division 1

Tyson Stroope won a pair of events and sparked Saint John’s Preparatory School to the team championship at Westfield State.

Stroope captured the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches, and also cruised to victory in the pentathlon (3,619 points). Stroope added a second place in the 110-meter hurdles for the Eagles, whose 98 team points put them comfortably ahead of runner-up Lexington High School (85).

Mickey Kuleszka won the javelin (173-7) for St. John’s Prep, which added a victory in the 4x100 relay (41.53).

Simon Tandeih sparked Lexington’s effort with a win in the 110-meter hurdles (14.61 seconds), as well as a second in the pentathlon and third in the long jump. Amari Mow added a win in the long jump (23-6) for the Minutemen.
Alex Todorov of Xaverian Brothers High School and Harry Flint of Brookline High School joined Stroope as double winners. Todorov won the 100 meters (10.73) and 200 meters (21.5), and Flint took the 400 (48.91) and 800 (1:51.59).

Jeremiah Mateo-Mora of Central Catholic High School won the 400-meter hurdles (54.72) and was third in the triple jump.

Xaverian finished third in the team standings (62), followed by Brookline High School (51) and Lowell High School (50.5)

Division 1 results

Division 2

Tripp Dowd and Aidan McGarry each secured individual event victories and North Andover High School returned to the top of the podium at Merrimack College with its third Division 2 championship in five years.

Dowd won the pentathlon (3,192 points) and McGarry the 400-meter hurdles (55.43) for the Scarlet Knights, who more than doubled up the competition with their 120.5 points. McGarry also was third in the 400 and Dowd third in the 110-meter hurdles, and NA also won the 4x400 relay (3:26.6) to help add to its team championships previously won in 2024 and 2022. Adding second place finishes were Ajani Muzasadila (100) and Aiden Siwicki (800), while Adam Webster was second in the shot put and third in the discus.

Billerica Memorial High School (60) led the rest of the pack thanks to a sweep of the mile, led  by winner Shane Leslie (4:18.77), followed by Mason Niles and Sahil Gandhi. The Indians also controlled the 4x800 relay (8:02.24).

Jelani Semper of Catholic Memorial School won the 100 meters (10.91) and was second in the long jump, while Amar Skeete won the triple jump (49-11) and was third in the long jump for the Knights. CM prevailed in the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.83 seconds.

Concord-Carlisle High School (56) was third in the team standings, followed by Catholic Memorial (50) and Woburn Memorial High School (49).

Division 2 results

Division 3

Walpole High School had to work for it to bring home the program’s third consecutive sectional title by the narrowest of margins.

The Timberwolves finished with 99.5 points, just a hair ahead of runner-up Reading Memorial High School (99) and Longmeadow High School (96) at Merrimack College.

Sawyer Regan was the lone individual winner for Walpole, taking the pentathlon title (3,290). The Timberwolves also prevailed in the 4x10 relay (43.17) and had just enough depth throughout the lineup to continue their reign.

Arnold Obour-Mensah was key with second-place finishes in the 100 and 200. Jake Stenstrom took second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the javelin, and Nicholas Demelo did the same in the discus and shot put, respectively. Walpole’s Luke Zahurak added a second in the 2-mile.

Reading nearly pulled out the team win thanks to standout Ryan Pulpi, who dominated the sprints with victories in the 100 (10.44), 200 (21.11) and 400 (48.97). Luke Rogerson added a javelin victory (210-7) for the Rockets, and Levi Emmanuel was first in the high jump (6-4).

Jonah Stephens Roye of Milton High School and Mitchell Callender of Oliver Ames High School each were double winners. Stephens Roye swept the hurdles events (110 – 14.81; 400 – 54.36), and Callender dominated the weight throws (shot put – 59-10; discus – 147-11).

Division 3 results

Division 4

Michael Mohoric won a pair of events at Bridgewater State, and Newburyport High School earned its first divisional championship since 2022.

Mohoric dominated the middle distance events for the Clippers, winning the 800 meters (1:51.99) and mile (4:13.19). Kyle Lisauskas added a win in the 400-meter hurdles (55.8) and was second in the 110-meter hurdles as Newburyport finished with 78 team points. The Clippers, who also prevailed in the 4x800 relay (8:06.12), outlasted runner-up Pembroke High School (69) and third-place Wakefield Memorial High School (61).

Wakefield’s JaMauri Belmer was the meet’s top individual, winning both the long jump (22-6) and triple jump (45-9 ½) while also placing second in the high jump.

Ian McNeil of Duxbury High School and Ryan MacCormack of Wayland High School joined Belmer and Mohoric as double winners. McNeil captured the 100 (10.79) and 200 (21.98), while MacCormack secured gold in the pole vault (13-6) and pentathlon (3,335).

Pembroke was led by winning efforts from Kevin Leonard (110 hurdles, 14.79), Nate Palmeiri (2-mile, 9:26.27) and Nick McCarthy (shot put, 54-1). 

Ryan Brooks of Burlington High School won the javelin (177-8) and was second in the pentathlon (3,195).

Division 4 results

Division 5

Weston High School had little trouble making it three consecutive divisional championships with a runaway win at Bridgewater State.

Matthew Fitzgibbon was the top competitor for the Wildcats, winning the mile (4:24.2) and adding a second-place in the 800. Weston compiled 101.5 points to more than double up the next closest competitor, Old Rochester Regional High School (50). Joseph Case High School was just behind in third place (49).

Oscar Torres added to the Weston victory by capturing the long jump (21-10 ½), and the Wildcats also captured the 4x800 relay in 8:10.41.

Zach Reisenberg placed second in the high jump, and Weston also got thirds from Aarav Mehta (800, mile), Hunter Waechter (2-mile) and Joseph Bangalie (discus).

Ben Deady of Joseph Case and Ta’Qaire Bell of Cathedral High School were double winners, Deady taking the 400-meter hurdles (56.45) and pentathlon (3,207), and Bell the 100 (10.95) and 200.

Jayden Brostrom of Oakmont Regional High School had a big day with a win in the 800 (1:57.57) as well as seconds in the mile and pentathlon. Malik Washburn led Old Rochester’s effort with a first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.5) and second in the triple jump.

Division 5 results

Division 6

Twin brothers Nathan Calcano Da Silvva and Aiden Calcano Da Silva were the stars as Abington High School won its first divisional state championship at Westfield State.

Nathan and Aiden went 1-2 in the 400 meters, with Nathan winning in a time of 48.54 seconds. Aiden added a victory in the 400-meter hurdles (53.79) and Nathan was second in the 200, helping Abington to a team score of 76 points.

Lucas De Oliveira also won the high jump (6-4) and was third in the 200 for the Green Wave, who also picked up a victory in the 4x400 relay.

Clinton High School (52) placed second thanks in large part to Sean Blaze, who swept to three victories in the 100 (10.80), 200 (21.89) and long jump (23- ½).

Monument Mountain Regional High School was third overall (46), as Siddy Culbreth and Everett Pacheco each posted a first- and third-place finish. Culbreth won the triple jump (47-10 ½) and was third in the long jump, while Pacheco captured gold in the mile (4:21.67) and bronze in the 800.

Nick Askjaer of Cohasset High School swept the weight throws, winning the shot put (61-1 ¾) and discus (184-4).

Matt Gillis of South Hadley High School won the pentathlon (3,073) and was second in the triple jump, while Jackson Dunton of Blackstone-Millville Regional High School did the same in the javelin (171-10) and pentathlon, respectively.

Luke Howard of Frontier Regional School won the 2-mile (9:25.82) and was third in the mile (4:22.67).
