Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and student-centered Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach to lead and grow its field hockey program. The ideal candidate will prioritize education-based athletics, emphasizing the development of athletic skills, leadership, personal growth, and academic success. The coach will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including team culture, instruction, scheduling, and athlete development.

The coach will serve as a positive role model, promote sportsmanship, and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Athlete Development:

Develop and implement a comprehensive training and competition plan that builds team and individual performance.

Teach the fundamentals of field hockey including strategy, skill development, teamwork, and game management.

Provide individualized feedback and support to help athletes achieve their full potential.

Team Culture & Character Building:

Foster a team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, responsibility, and perseverance.

Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and strong leadership.

Game & Practice Management:

Plan and conduct structured practices that focus on skill development, physical conditioning, and tactical preparation.

Manage all aspects of game day operations, including lineup decisions, player rotations, and in-game strategy.

Academic & Personal Support:

Encourage academic excellence and help student-athletes balance athletics and academics.

Maintain open lines of communication with teachers, parents, and school staff.

Communication & Collaboration:

Collaborate with the athletic department, assistant coaches, and school community to ensure program alignment and support.

Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding team expectations, schedules, and student-athlete progress.

Safety, Compliance & Supervision:

Ensure adherence to MIAA, NFHS, and school safety protocols, including injury prevention and emergency procedures.

Maintain required coaching certifications and complete all compliance documentation:

First Aid & CPR Certification

MIAA Coaches Education Program

CORI/SORI Background Checks

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience in field hockey, preferably at the high school level.

Strong knowledge of field hockey techniques, rules, and strategy.

Ability to create a positive team culture and mentor student-athletes.

Must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching certification requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading or assisting a varsity-level program.

Experience working with diverse student populations.

Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or related field.

Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
