Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
~Required~
*Current MA DESE Educator License: Supervisor/Director or Principal/Assistant Principal 5-12
*Master’s degree in Athletic Administration/Leadership, Educational Administration/Leadership, or a closely related field
*A minimum of five years of experience in the field of education, athletics, or related field
*Demonstrated knowledge of MIAA regulations, Title IX, and Massachusetts interscholastic compliance requirements
Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED
*Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
*Demonstrated ability to positively lead and motivate staff and students
~Preferred~
*NIAAA Certification: Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) or Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) designation
*Head varsity coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level
*Familiarity with FamilyID, ArbiterSports, or equivalent eligibility and scheduling platforms
*Public school experience
*Familiarity with booster organization relations and management
*Demonstrated record of equity-centered athletic programming and anti-bias leadership practice
RESPONSIBILITIES:
~Athletics~
1. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive interscholastic athletics program
2. Act as the chief spokesperson for the District’s athletic program: Serve as the primary point of contact for athletics related inquiries from students, staff, families, league officials, and community members
3. Lead athletics communications efforts including: management of athletics social media accounts; maintaining the athletics website; and facilitating the development of stories and event recaps, photography/content collection, and event promotion
4. Facilitate the tracking of athletics awards, statistics, milestones, and program achievement
5. Serve as the District’s liaison to the MIAA
6. Partner with the Friends of Rockport Athletics (FRA) to ensure philanthropic support is aligned with goals and needs of the athletic department
7. Lead the recruitment and selection processes for all coaching staff and make final recommendations to the Principal and/or Superintendent
8. Orient, supervise, and evaluate coaches and related staff, and support their ongoing professional development
9. Ensure all coaches possess and maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR/AED, Concussion Training, and MIAA coaching courses)
10. Develop and maintain a handbook for coaches that outlines procedures and expectations
11. Develop and maintain a student athlete handbook
12. Oversee daily operations of athletic programs to ensure safe, effective, and efficient practices
13. Ensure all coaches, student-athletes, and programs adhere to MIAA rules and regulations
14. Communicate and collaborate with staff and parents/caregivers regarding athletic programming and student athletes
15. Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all athletic events including arranging for officials and team transportation
16. In collaboration with appropriate staff, schedule and coordinate the use of facilities, gymnasiums, fields, and equipment for games and practices
17. Facilitate the execution of game day operations for athletic contests and events, including setup and breakdown, equipment management, site supervision, scoreboard and clock operation, parking logistics, and operational coordination
18. Coordinate staff supervision at home athletic events as appropriate
19. Attend athletic events and ensure students and spectators adhere to the MIAA and RPS codes of conduct
20. Develop and operationalize appropriate rules and regulations governing conduct at interscholastic athletic activities
21. Maintain a comprehensive program for all athletes to prevent, care for, and rehabilitate athletic injuries
22. Prepare schedules and bids for contracted services as appropriate or required
23. Develop and manage the annual athletic department budget
24. Oversee the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms
25. Collect and account for athletic user fees and all gate receipts
26. Submit requisitions and examine and approve bills for payment
27. Work with the Business Office on payroll processing and reimbursement for officials
28. When appropriate, serve as a consultant for any changes in or additions to the grounds or facilities used by interscholastic teams
29. Work with coaches to ensure proper injury protocols and emergency action plans are in place and utilized
30. In collaboration with school leadership, review and revise the Student-Family Handbook as appropriate
31. In collaboration with school leadership, support school-day athletics/wellness-related events and initiatives
~Intramurals & Extracurricular Activities~
1. Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of a grades 6-12 intramural program and grades K-12 extracurricular program (stipend based positions)
2. Collaborate with the Principals and/or Assistant Principal to ensure that the process of developing, posting, and filling stipend positions aligns with contractual expectations
3. In collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal, act as the chief spokesperson for intramural and extracurricular programs
4. Communicate and collaborate with staff, parents/caregivers, and students regarding all appropriate aspects of the programs
5. Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all intramural and extracurricular programs including transportation
6. In collaboration with appropriate staff, schedule and coordinate the use of facilities, gymnasiums, fields, and equipment for all intramural and extracurricular programs
7. In collaboration with the Principal, develop and manage the budget for intramural and extracurricular programs
8. Oversee the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and resources specifically related to intramural and extracurricular programs
9. Collect and account for related user fees
