Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Head Cross Country Coach to lead both the boys and girls varsity programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to education-based athletics, focusing on physical development, sportsmanship, and personal growth. This coach will foster a positive team culture that emphasizes endurance, resilience, leadership, and academic balance.

The Head Coach is responsible for the overall management of the program, including training plans, meet preparation, and coordination with school staff and families. The coach will serve as a role model to student-athletes and guide them toward success both on the course and in life.

Key Responsibilities:
Athlete Development:

Design and implement training programs to develop endurance, strength, and racing strategies.

Teach proper running form, pacing, and recovery techniques.

Foster a safe and supportive environment for runners of all experience levels.

Team Leadership & Culture:

Promote team cohesion, respect, and sportsmanship.

Develop leadership within the team and encourage student-athlete accountability.

Serve as a mentor and role model, emphasizing character development.

Competition & Meet Management:

Prepare athletes for meets through progressive training cycles and mental preparation.

Organize meet entries, lineups, and team travel logistics.

Provide guidance and support during competitions and track progress throughout the season.

Academic & Personal Support:

Encourage academic achievement and help students balance school and athletics.

Monitor athlete eligibility and collaborate with school staff as needed.

Communication & Collaboration:

Maintain open communication with athletes, parents, school staff, and administration.

Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates clearly and regularly.

Coordinate with the athletic department to align with district goals and policies.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all MIAA and NFHS rules and regulations.

Monitor athlete wellness and injury prevention.

Maintain all required certifications, including:

NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching

NFHS Concussion in Sports

First Aid & CPR Certification

MIAA Coaches Education Program

Background Checks (CORI/SORI)

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching cross country or long-distance running.

Strong knowledge of training principles, race strategy, and athlete development.

Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching certification requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or a related field.

Experience coaching both boys and girls programs.

Experience working with diverse student populations.

Demonstrated success in building a cohesive and competitive team culture.

Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
