The 27 regular voting members of the Board of Directors consists of nine members elected by the MSAA (one from each athletic district), four elected by the MASC, four elected by the M.A.S.S., nine by MSSADA, and one at-large representative. Nine athletic directors, representing either districts 1 through 9, must be members of the Board at all times. The term of each member is three years. A minimum of four women, and at least one minority, must be members of the Board at all times.
Since July 1, 1978, the MIAA Board of Directors has been the administrative and regulatory body for conducting athletic events, contests, tournaments, for enforcing rules, and for recommending changes in rules to the MIAC. As of January 31, 2023, the MIAA Board of Directors serves as the final appellate body of the MIAA and final decision maker on recommended rule changes. The ASSEMBLY of principals is the legislative body of the MIAA.
