Wrestling Communicable Disease Statement
There has been a great concern among AD's and wrestling coaches regarding the doctor's clearance for communicable skin diseases, i.e. ring-worm. The Wrestling Committee adopted the MIWOA (officials) policy in 1997 that the term "current", as it relates to a doctor's note stating that the condition is no longer contagious and is not harmful to his/her opponent, is interpreted to mean "within 14 days".
If a physician writes a letter that states a specific location of a common, non-contagious rash such as excema that is easily identifiable, there is no need to get a new note every two weeks.
Coaches should note that the referee has the final say if there is anything questionable that is not easily identifiable.
Therefore, a coach who wishes to insure that his wrestler is allowed to wrestle with a "rash" would be wise to have a "current" note on hand, stating one of the above.
