Wellness Resources

The MIAA and the MSSAA make a difference in the lives of students. "Wellness" programs as presented ensure an enhanced quality of life. The MIAA program has been recognized nationally as on of the most innovative tobacco, drug and alcohol prevention and education programs in the country. As recipient of the National Federation's Helen Durbin Memorial Award, this program demonstrates exemplary effort in influencing school age youth toward healthier lifestyles.

Leadership Training -- The purpose of this full week workshop is to train participants to take advantage of natural prevention opportunities within athletics and other school activities. Workshop participants learn how to encourage school activity staff members, student activity participants, and their parents to use their influence to prevent tobacco, alcohol and other drug use problems.

Wellness Coordinators Training -- A minimum of three seasonal training sessions are provided for school wellness coordinators. In each of these sessions, resources are explained and other strategies for reaching students are suggested.

Wellness Workshops -- Our guest speakers focus on topics including substance abuse, and leadership for coaches and captains.

Publications and Videos -- Various educational materials and videos are available from the MIAA office including categories such as: alcohol, tobacco, drugs, safety, sportsmanship, nutrition, and other health related categories.

Building the Future Newsletter -- A quarterly newsletter from the MIAA keeps high-school activity associations and high school activity staff members up-to-date on MIAA/MSSAA activities and services.

Presenters -- An up-to-date list of available speakers throughout the state is maintained for schools to use.

Other Conferences -- As needs are identified, the MIAA and MSSAA sponsor conferences on Wellness topics for all of our members.

Wellness Posters -- Posters emphasizing healthy living and prevention strategies are made available throughout the year.
