Joe Donnelly, Jr. is a
consultant for the MIAA and was the Program Director for the ASH (Anti-Smoking for Health)
Program at the James Michael Curley Community Center in South Boston, MA. The ASH Program
is an Innovative Outreach & Intervention Program of the Massachusetts Tobacco Control
Program (MTCP) of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Prior to this position in
South Boston, Joe worked as the Smoking Cessation Counselor at the Uphams Corner Health
Care Center in Dorchester, MA.
In his work the MTCP, Joe has worked extensively with youth and teens in a variety of
settings, including elementary, middle, and high schools, after-school programs,
youth/teen centers, the Boys & Girls Club, City Roots Alternative High School,
the Boston Neighborhood Basketball League, and the South Boston Pop Warner Football
Organization. Joe has also worked with BAYTAG (The Boston Area Youth Tobacco Action Group)
of the Boston Area Tobacco Control Coalition (BATCC), and is a member of the MTCP Boston
Regional Steering Committee. He is also a member of the South Boston United Youth Workers
and sits on the fundraising committee.
Prior to his work for MTCP, Joe was a volunteer counselor for the Massachusetts Drug &
Alcohol Hotline, providing telephone counseling and referrals for services pertaining to
alcohol and other drug use. Joe was also a volunteer for the Big Brother/Big Sister
Organization.
Joe graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Boston Summa cum Laude with a
degree in Sociology and a Program of Study in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Studies. Joe
also attended Colgate University, pursuing degrees in Sociology and Music. He was a
member of the 1977 ECAC Football Team of the year, posting a 10-1 record. Joe is also a professional drummer who has made
many records and toured extensively. |
