John W. Suby works
with the MIAA on the You Lead program, Coaches and Captains, and Student Leadership
Workshops.
His past experience includes serving as president of Addiction Prevention Inc., an
independent consulting firm specializing in addiction prevention. He has also worked
for Spofford Hall, a drug/alcohol treatment facility in Keene, N.H. In that position he
served first as an adolescent specialist, and later as Director of Marketing for the New
England region.
Before Joining Spofford Hall, John worked for ten years at the Freedom From Chemical
Dependency (FCD) Foundation in Needham, MA, an organization which provides education in
schools across the country. During his tenure there, John served as Executive Director,
and was responsible for day-to-day operations and supervision of all FCD consultants. He
also played a key role in the start-up of the Family Learning Center, which conducts
workshops, seminars and conferences for a variety of different audiences.
He has lectured and/or conducted workshops on "Drug and Alcohol Prevention
Planning" at the Massachusetts Governor's Alliance Against Drugs, the National
Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) conferences, and the European Council of
International Schools (ECIS) conference in Rome, Italy. He has been a featured speaker at
the New England and New York State College Health Associations' annual meetings, the
Greater Boston Alcohol Council's annual meeting, the New England Teachers Conference and
the New York Association of Independent Schools. John has served as a faculty member at
more than a dozen educational universities for the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and
as a regular faculty member at the New England School of Addiction Studies. He was also a
guest speaker at a national conference for physicians at Beth Isreal Hospital in Boston,
MA, has addressed the Brigham & Women's Center for Prenatal and Family Health also in
Boston, and has lectured at Harvard University on several occasions.
Prior to his work at FCD, John worked as a consultant at St. Elizabeth's Comprehensive
Alcoholism Program in Boston. He was also Program Director of the Substance Abuse Program
of Care About Now (CAN) in Chelsea, MA. His duties at CAN included running substance abuse
programs in the Massachusetts State Prison System, and training social workers and
correctional officers in the areas of addiction identification and intervention.
John is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) in the State of Massachusetts. He
served for six years on the Board of Trustees at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham,
MA. He is a graduate of Hobart College in New York and has a M.Ed. in Counseling
Psychology from Boston State College. John also serves as a clinical consultant for Sobel
& Raciti Associates, a New England-based E.A.P. firm. |
