William N. Gaine is
the Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Intercholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and
the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association (MSSAA). In 1979, Mr. Gaine
was appointed Assistant Executive Director of the MIAA. Since joining the MIAA, he has assumed major
responsibilities and leadership in the areas of student eligibility, health and safety of
the student athlete through his leadership role with the MIAA Sports Medical
Committee, the Mass. Medical Society and the Department of Public Health. In the area of
Chemical Health of the student athlete, Mr. Gaine has demonstrated national leadership
organizing; conducting and promoting local, regional and national workshops on the
subject; as well as innumerable keynote presentations on the role of administrator, coach
and parent in promoting chemical health.
Under Mr. Gaine's leadership, the
MIAA has received from the Governor's Alliance Against Drugs, a commendation for its
outstanding program. Similar recognition was given by the Drug Enforcement Administration,
and at a National Federation Annual Meeting, the MIAA was presented the "Helen Durbin
Award" for the most outstanding High School State Association's Chemical Health
Program. |
