Introduction

Mission Statement:

    The MIAA Sports Medical Committee shall advise the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) concerning sports medicine issues as they relate to rules writing, as well as other programs and services of the MIAA.  It will monitor and disseminate current information to the MIAA and its membership relative to the field of sports medicine.  This committee, through the MIAA, will work to educate its member constituency concerning sports medicine issues.  The committee will proactively address health and safety issues of general concern to the MIAA membership.

Goals of Committee:

• Work cooperatively with rules writing committees to address sports medicine issues as they impact high school rules and the health and safety of participants.

• Work cooperatively and maintain liaison with other key medical and paramedical organization that can assist the committee in its work.

• Assist the MIAA in researching sports medicine issues.

• Develop position statements and state guidelines to assist the MIAA membership in making informed decisions concerning sports medicine issues.
