2026 MIAA Division 1-3 Mixed Gender Wrestling Championships: Milford Repeats, Central Catholic, Dedham Crowned
The 2026 MIAA Divisions 1-3 Mixed Gender Wrestling Championships were held Friday, February and Saturday, February 22. Division 1 was held at North Andover High School, Division 2 at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, and Division 3 at Gloucester High School.
Here is a recap of the action:
Division 1
Central Catholic High School earned four first-place finishes and three second-place spots for a decisive win over defending champion Shawsheen Tech and the rest of the field.
The Raiders compiled 224 points, led by victories from freshman Sam Winship (106 lbs.), freshman Lucas Copper (120), senior Izaiah Santiago (132) and junior Brian Waller-Retiano (285). Shawsheen was next in line with 174 points, and Saint John’s Preparatory School took third (120).
Winship’s final match was a fall (1:44) over Kyle Dube of Shawsheen. Cooper earned a technical fall win (4:34) over Michael Mortarelli of Natick High School, Santiago posted a 4-2 decision against Cole Mallon of Greater Lowell Technical School, and Weller-Reitano topped Atilio Colon of Lowell High School by decision (7-1).
Picking up seconds for the Raiders were junior Rhys Dewar (175), freshman Connor Welock (144), and junior Caden Smith (165).
For Shawsheen, seniors Dante Giusti and James Tildsley once again were individual champions. Giusti prevailed at 126 lbs. (4-0 decision over Cedrick Daniel of Arlington High School), and Tildsley posted a technical fall (3:28) at 157 lbs. Over Andrew Daley of Bristol-Plymouth Tech.
The winners for St. John’s Prep were senior James Lally at 144 (4-1 decision over Welock), and freshman Sam Josey at 190 (13-5 major decision over Logan Holmes of Shawsheen).

- 113: Johnny Woodall, sophomore, Franklin High School (13-2 major decision over Antoine Jackman, Greater Lowell)
- 138: Jason Ballou, senior, Andover High School (15-8 decision over Jack Sauer, Franklin)
- 150: Dan Greaney, senior, Leominster High School (fall, 2:24, vs. Michael Nigro, Braintree High School)
- 165: Troy Greaney, senior, Leominster (9-2 decision over Smith)
- 175: Vincent DeMaio, senior, Methuen High School (11-2 major decision over Dewar)
- 215: William Buffington, senior, Taunton High School (8-3 decision over Quinn Bowles, Boston Latin School)
Division 2
Milford High School was one of five teams with a pair of individual champions, but it was three runner-up finishes that helped the Scarlet Hawks to a repeat of the team title.
Bolstered by wins from sophomore Brayden Boccia at 126 and Ryan Flis at 144, the Scarlet Hawks compiled 157.5 points to comfortably win top honors. A tight battle for second place went to West Springfield High School (105.5), followed by Melrose High School (97.5), Agawam High School (96), Somerset Berkley Regional (89), North Attleborough High School (88), and Woburn Memorial High School (87).
Boccia earned a win by fall (4:00) over Kevin Spoon of Salem High School, and Flis added his first place by fall (5:08) against Aydin Lamb of Wakefield Memorial High School. Adding key runner-up points for the Scarlet Hawks were senior Derek Marcolini at 132, junior Dylan Wright at 138, and senior Josiah Carney at 150).
West Springfield, Melrose and Somerset Berkley were among the other teams with a pair of individual winners.
Junior Devon Mateo (113) earned West Springfield a win with a 10-0 major decision over Alexavier Orellana of Woburn, and at 190 it was junior Abel Varzeas for the Terriers with a fall (3:07) against Cole Bonner of Duxbury High School.
Melrose got its wins from senior Johnny Moraes at 120 (fall, 1:30 over Sean P. MacDonald of Longmeadow High School) and senior Scott Santos at 285 (1-0 decision over Charles Medas of Somerset Berkley).
For Somerset Berkley, senior Alex Javier prevailed at 132 (8-3 decision over Marcolini) and senior Owen Pavao took first at 215 (fall, 1:13 over Braiden Bagloe of Northbridge High School).
Burlington High School also had a pair of individual wins – sophomore Maximillian Shvartsman at 106 (fall, 2:35 over Lawson Glove of Whitman-Hanson Regional), and sophomore Cameron Bonnell at 165 (6-1 decision over Ryan Sexton of Agawam High School).

- 138: Kai Ly, senior, Minnechaug Regional High School (technical fall, 5:17 over Wright)
- 150: William Merkle, senior, Reading Memorial High School (fall, 3:30 over Carney)
- 157: James Delorfano, senior, Woburn (6-4 decision over Arthur Silveira of Ashland High School)
- 175: Cyrus Jones, senior, Sharon High School (fall, 2:31 over Jack Sawiski of Silver Lake Regional)
Division 3
Dedham High School put one wrestler in each of the top three spots and that was just enough to give the Marauders (101 points) the team championship in a tight battle with Gloucester High School (100.5) and Holliston High School (98.5).
Anthony Sateriale prevailed at 113 lbs., beating Josh Gonsalves of Middleborough High School by fall (5:03). The Marauders also got a second from Manuel Garcia at 138 and a third from Ryan Talon-Kelly at 132.
Gloucester nearly pulled out the championship behind a victory from Max Thomas at 285 (14-5 major decision over Xander Pizer of Scituate High School). The Fishermen added thirds from Aiden Decoste at 138 and Joe Allen at 175.
Holliston’s consistent effort was sparked by a win from Henry McElligott at 150 (14-3 major decision over Samson Xayachack of Tyngsborough/Dracut), as well as a second from Ethan Anastasia at 157 and third from Landon Perry at 165.
Tewksbury Memorial High School and Hanover High School each had a pair of champions. For Tewksbury, Nick Desisto prevailed at 126 (technical fall, 3:43 over Jisup Shin of Weston High School) and Sean Callahan at 144 (6-1 decision over Owen O’Reilly of Nauset Regional). Hanover got firsts from Conlan Geary at 120 (6-0 decision over Steven Santiago of Holyoke High School) and Peter Clarke at 190 (technical fall, 4:16 over Joshua Hindin of Foxborough High School).

- 132: Dillan Mueller, Norton High School (7-3 decision over Jack Lightfoot of Tewksbury)
