The legislative body of the Association is the Assembly which consists of the principal of each of the 356 member institutions.
Policies which guide the Association are developed by the standing committees which meet throughout the year. The 400 school leaders who serve on these standing committees are elected by the Assembly or appointed by the statewide associations of school committees or school superintendents. Although the majority positions on committees are held by member school principals and athletic directors, coaches, game officials, and physicians serve within and throughout the MIAA committee structure.
