MIAA ANNOUNCES 2009
LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE GRADUATES
FRANKLIN - The Massachusetts
Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce that 31 education professionals
from across the state recently graduated from the 22nd Annual MIAA Leadership Training
Institute. This five-day residential program (January 26-30, 2009) was conducted by
nationally renowned trainers,
Throughout the week, leadership trainees
learned practical strategies for working with coaches, students and parents to promote
sportsmanship and wellness themes. Specific topics for the course included conducting
pre-season meetings, enforcing drug and alcohol policies, training staff members, and
setting a positive example. All Leadership Training Institute participants are required to
utilize the information they learned by submitting an action plan to be implemented within
the structure of their school, team, or community. Completion
of this action plan will result in the achievement of 40 PDPs with the option of

All expenses for this week-long workshop were paid for by the MIAA including meals, materials, hotel accommodations, and professional development. Workshop participants attended sessions at the MIAA office in Franklin and the Doubletree Hotel in Milford. Through the years, more than 600 health educators, coaches, teachers, parents, and others have attended this training.
