MIAA INTERN OPPORTUNITIES -
Deadline for Summer 2019 is February 15, 2019
Deadline for Winter 2020 is September 1, 2019
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is an organization of 374 secondary schools offering up to 36 recognized sports for boys and girls. 230,664 team positions were filled by young men and women who participate in 110,000 competitions annually among MIAA member schools.
The MIAA has benefited from several college students who have interned with the Association during the Fall, Spring and/or Summer semesters. The experiences offered the many interns has benefitted them in their growth in many fields including sports management, business management and health/wellness to name but a few. Interns work in a multiple of significant areas of the Association's responsibilities.
The following areas have been developed by interns in the past:
Special projects leading to the creation of new organization documents
Planning and organizing workshops and conferences
Collaborating with one or more Association executives in the areas of executive responsibility
Author of press releases
Serving as sports information director for specific Association-sponsored tournaments
Providing support for the work of one or more standing committees of the Association
Providing support for elements of the Association’s Sportsmanship or Wellness programs
Compilation and/or analysis of data related to contest "incidents"
Support and user of the Association's web page and technologies
Pitching in as a member of the team to organize and disseminate major mailings.
The above is designed to provide some "flavor" for perspective interns. The Association's priorities would dictate the areas of involvement of an intern during the period that he or she is with the Association. Interns have found the MIAA experience fulfilling inasmuch as the work that is done is important and interesting as well as providing interaction and networking with educational and athletic leaders across the Commonwealth. Interns are also invited to attend committee meetings, executive staff meetings, etc. in order to broaden the intern experience.
Interested candidates are asked to forward a letter of intent and resume to Richard Pearson - rpearson AT miaa DOT net
