MIAA Baseball Committee Votes to Allow
Wood and Metal Bats in Tournament Games
The MIAA Baseball Committee at its October 22nd meeting voted 9 to 8 to allow players in tournament games in 2004 to use a "bat of choice" thereby permitting either wood or metal bats to be used. The 2003 tournament was played using only wood bats.
In May the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Council voted to reject a rule change proposal calling for wood only bats to be used in the regular season. The Baseball Committee decision was to allow "...a bat of choice that meets the BESR Certified standard" bringing the tournament format in line with the regular season rules.
