STATEMENT ON TASK FORCES JANUARY 15TH MEETING |
Last December the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association appointed a Task Force to review the proposed rule change calling for wood baseball bats to be used in place of the current standard which allows either wood or metal bats. The Task Force was also asked to make a recommendation to the Board regarding a request by the MIAA Baseball Committee to immediately enact an emergency rule change calling for wood bats in the 2003 season. On January 15th the Task Force conducted an open meeting at which it heard from more than 25 interested parties expressing views on the issue during five hours of public comment. Following the open meeting the Task Force went into Executive Session to consider the issue. As a sub-committee of the Board and because the issue involves the potential for litigation the Task Force will present its findings to the Board in Executive Session at the January 23rd Board of Directors meeting. No public discussion of the Task Forces recommendations will be made prior to that time. |
