RE:  MINUTES OF AUGUST 28TH NEC MEETING

1.   Schedules cross-checked by all AD’s. Please make sure to follow up all changes with commissioners when appropriate. The following new AD’s were welcomed to the meeting – Jim Coffey, Bev (sitting if for Jim at the beginning of the meeting were Linda Zambouras, Athletic Secretary & Dan Bauer, AP & Head Ftbl Coach); Keith Correia, Rev; Scott Connolly, Sal; Mike Nelson, Sau; & Rob O’Leary, Win; along with returning AD’s. Sean Gallagher, Beverly Principal & NEC President welcomed all to Beverly and wished the best for the upcoming year.

2.   Dick Sauchuk,Football Commissioner, handed out Football  Notes & evaluation form for head coaches to use. He reviewed the notes and process to use for his web-site and that allshould check on a regular basis for officials information and schedule changes. He also agreed toattend the NEC Football coaches meeting on Mon., 9/8 @ LE – 7 pm

3.   Roy Condon, Soccer Commissioner, handed out assignments and officials directory.  He again reminded all about securing soccer goals, mouthpieces, & shin guards - all required rules.

4.   Coaching Directories received from Bev, Dan, Glo, LC, Mrbhd & Rev. All others will be either e-mailed or handed out at 9/11 NEC meeting.

5.   Sheet handed out on Sports directors for 08-09 – specific duties will be covered in Sept.

6.   Discussion on sites at each school for sports. Dan, LC, & Mrbhd have on their web-sites and cover all in the NEC. Schools should cross-check to make sure your correct sites are listed.  Updated sites received from Glo, Mrb, Rev, & LC.

7.   Handbook updates will be covered at the Sept. meeting – will start meeting at 10:30 am and the first hour will be to review handbook and changes & role each AD plays in directing sport(s).

8.   NEC Directory handed out and updated. Will send out final copy via e-mail this week.

9.   Rule Books handed out for Ftbl, Soc, F Hoc, Golf, Vlbl, & Cheering.

10.  Agreed by all (except Peabody that does not pay for scrimmages) to pay a JV fee for officials doing Varsity scrimmages.

11.  Request read from Phil Stacey, Salem News, (also e-mailed to all) asking to have both coaches call in the scores – winner & loser. Also mentioned request from Bill Newell in regards to Moorestuffonline.com and that they will be contacting you in the future.

12.  NEC/CAL Coaches Passes handed out to each school (30).

13.  Discussion on scheduling Outdoor Track over the Spring Vacation. Since we schedule other Sports then, agreed to keep it the same way as in the past – scheduled, but individual schools may change if the need arises.

14.  All reminded that the Middle School Cross Country NEC Conference meet will be on Thurs., 10/23 (not Fri., 10/24) @ Gloucester – Stage Fort PK.

15.  Sheet handed out with all NEC meetings for the year – August thru June along with updated Copies of the 2008 & 2009 Varsity Football Schedules. I updated the 2008 schedule on 8/29& e-mailed to all – following corrections received: Swp @ Winchester – now on Sat., 9/13 @  6 pm in Woburn; Block 6 – Swp @ Bishop Fenwick on F 10/17 – 7 pm; Block 7 – Bev @ Sau – 2   pm; & Block 9 – Dan @ Sau – 11 am

16.  User fees, ticket prices, & AD Salaries handed out. Please get back to Sec/Treas. with any  corrections and updated sheets will be handed out at Sept. Mtg.

17.  Fall coaches meetings cross-checked and will be updated at Sept. Mtg.

18.  New business:
      a.   Phil S, CC Director, covered pre-season meeting held with the coaches on 8/27. All reminded that they must hire one certified official for home Varsity cc meets. Motion passed that starting in 2009 any new CC courses MUST be a minimum of 2.8 and a maximum of 3.1 miles.
      b.   John S, Golf Director, covered pre-seson meeting held with the coaches on 8/25. Motion accepted to change rule 6 in Golf in NEC handbook - … in the event that less than 37 team holes have been played, the match will be rescheduled in its entirety (used to be 28). Rule 9 – motion defeated to eliminate rule that boys & girls would play the same par’s on each hole, & following motion accepted that both boys & girls must use the same tee & par for all holes.
      c.   Discussion on NEC rule 58 in handbook – pg. 17 – and Sec/Treas. to bring in a proposal for word changing to make clearer.
      d.   PDP’s – reviewed what was done for Gary M, LE, & will have for all others in Sept.
      e.   Discussion on what should be done if you receive a police report with student names from other schools. All in agreement that as a courtesy you should notify school(s) AD.
      f.   The new MIAA District A Chrm. is Tim Wood, Dracut AD. Sean Gallagher as NEC President will serve as the NEC rep. to this committee – replacing Joe Sullivan.
      g.   Motion accepted unanimously  for support of Beverly host & Gloucester guest in Co-op for Girls   Ice Hockey.
      h.   Discussion on having NEC run own Coaches training each season. Plan would be to have a  certified instructor for the MIAA phase and also cover the NEC rules at the same time. Will be on the Sept. agenda.
      i.   June Treasurer’s report handed out and money that is owed from last year highlighted.
       j.   Bill D, Soccer Director, handed out agenda used at Soccer Coaches meeting held on 8/25 along with MIAA soccer rules & also a copy of the Lynn Woods CC Course.
       k.   Danvers also handed out user fee breakdown, ticket prices, & 2008 Football roster.
