RE:      MINUTES OF THE 6/11 NEC MEETING

  1.     Treasurer’s report accepted. Balance of $25374.68.

  2.     Minutes from May regular meeting (5/7) and Special Meeting (5/21) accepted.

  3.     District A MSSADA Committee did not meet in May – thus no report.

  4.     All pleased with the Scholar Banquet and the Coaches Banquet. Suggested that when the Sports Director is presenting the Sportsmanship Awards he highlight the winners.

  5.     All Spring Commissioners (Bsbl, Sftbl, B Lac, G Lac, & Trk) rehired. Also the proposed draft for Commissioners Job Description approved. (See May minutes #6a). Recommended that all Commissioners attend NEC meeting prior to the beginning of their season.

  6.     Sports Directors will remain the same for 09-10 with Scott C, Sal, adding Volleyball.

  7.     All schools with Volleyball reminded to send schedules to Dave M, Commissioner.

  8.     Martin Standings were announced and handed out at the Coaches Banquet. Thanks to Mike P, Mrb, for compiling and congratulations to Peabody for winning.

  9.     Discussion on having the NEC purchase phones for all AD’s and since many already are tied into their school plan, will remain as is.

10.      User Fees, Ticket Prices, & AD Duties & Salaries updated and will be handed out in Sept.

11.      Spring Sports reports: (Most reports were e-mailed at end of season by Sports Directors)

          a.   Sftbl – Award winners and All-Stars handed out.

          b.   Bsbl – Award winners, All-Stars, and coaches meeting report handed out. Coaches recommended group buying, wanted to make sure all teams use the league ball, questioned the length of the freshman schedule, and being assigned the same umpire for many games.

          c.   Trk – Award winners, All-Stars, coaches meeting report and Event sheet handed out. Will have the coaches recommendations discussed at the Sept. NEC meeting.

          d.   Lac – Award winners and All-Stars handed out.

          e.    Tn – Final standings, Award winners and All-Stars handed out.

12.      Fall Schedules cross-checked and all reminded to make sure you send any additional changes to Commissioners. Updated 2009 V, JV, & F Football schedules were e-mailed to all on 7/3. Proposed 2010 V Football schedule handed out.

13.      Indoor Track schedule will be on the August agenda.

14.      Discussion on who is in charge of Middle Level sports. Agreed that the Sports Director of that Sport is also responsible for the Middle School teams and that they (coaches) should be invited to pre-season meeting.

15.      Gary M, LE, and the District A rep to the Football Committee gave a brief update on what will be Proposed for the 2011 MIAA playoffs.

16.      The 5 schools in the GBL have applied to the NEC and agreed to form a NEC sub-committee to look at possible options. Sub-committee met on 7/14 and will send out minutes from that meeting in the near future.

17.      New Business:

          a.   Discussion on late payments from schools to officials. Process should be the official contacting the AD at the school, and they in turn will deal with their business office.

          b.   John Thomas, Ips, looking for Lacrosse scores from past years. Schools and dates will be forwarded to all on list.

          c.   E-mail read from Deems Hatch, requesting that the people sent from the schools be qualified to run an event and that they realize they are to stay for the entire meet.

          d.   Motion accepted that the NEC will pay for the lunch in June at Wenham CC.

          e.   Volleyball rule changes handed out to all schools having Volleyball this coming Fall

          f.    Discussion on the process for all-star voting and approved  that unless you, as Sports Director, present a separate policy that is approved, you must for COY, MVP, & Sportsmanship allow everyone to vote and coaches may not vote for own players, school, or self.

          g.   John O’Neil at Salem State is looking for Middle School Ice Hockey teams – contact him if interested.

          h.   Updated sheet handed out with all NEC meeting dates for 09-10.

          i.    All wished a healthy and sun filled summer vacation.
