RE:      MINUTES OF 2/12/09 NEC MEETING

  1.     Treasurer’s report accepted. Balance of $43749.31.

  2.     January minutes accepted.

  3.     2009 Fall Schedules (Golf, CC, Soc, FH, & Vlbl) accepted.

  4.     All reminded that Spring schedule changes must be sent to Commissioners and need to be mutually approved by both schools.

  5.     Following schools will not host the Javelin as an Outdoor Track event: LC, LE, & Mrb (?).

  6.     2009 V Football Schedule reviewed and latest updates added (dated 2/16/09) and will be e-mailed with these minutes).

  7.     District A report:
          a. Vendors for AD Conference down 24% - AD’s asked if they would accept small fee – No.
          b. Supreme court ruling – reaffirming that athletics is a privilege, not a right.
          c. Dist. A will hold roundtable in Parlor during conference – Time & date: TBA – NEC will cover user fee’s. MVC – Assignors;
              DCL – Evaluation of athletic program; CAL – Boosters, & CC – hall of fames.
          d. Awards for Nxt yr: AD of Yr – Jack Fletcher; PAW of M – Hardy Nalley; Ted D – Steve Desy; NIAAA – St Aw of M
              – Phil Sheridan; NIAAA inside – Bill Adams; outside – Tony Romano.
          e. Discussion on requesting a freeze on officials fees for 10-11 year.

  8.     All coaches meetings and NEC events cross-checked. Cheering will be: Ice Hockey @ Danvers on Sat., 2/21 @ 1
         with doors opening at 11 am; and Bsktbl @ LE on Sat 2/28 @
12 noon, with doors opening at 10:30 am. The NEC vs CAL
          Ice Hockey All-Star game @ Reading on Sat., 2/21 is now at 8 pm (was originally listed for 7 pm). All others as listed.

  9.     Speakers for scholar banquet: Tentative – Peter Kinchley, Swp; & Katyln Hardnett, Dan. Each school needs to e-mail Cathy @
         Danvers by 4/1 the list of winners and bio. Also need to send her a picture (wallet size) of each winner.

10.      All reminded that if you have any agenda items for the Special Mtg @ Bradford CC on Thurs., 5/21 @ 11 am to send them
         to the Sec/Treas.

11.      Coaches Banquet – Tues., 6/9 @ Franco-Am. Club in Beverly – Each school needs to e-mail Cathy @ Danvers by 5/1 the list
         of winners and bio. Also need to send her a picture (wallet size) of each winner.

12.     Middle School Baseball & Softball – following schools will compete next Fall  and Sec/Treas. to draft a schedule for March meeting
         – 4

13.      Discussion on playing GBL schools on non-league dates. Will look into getting schedules from the GBL when developed and sharing,
         so that schools looking for games, will be able to contact each other.

14.      Schools with F Boys & Girls Lacrosse:  Pea, Bev, & Dan. Possible CAL schools: Masco & NA.

15.      Concern voiced on Cheering & Gymnastics and the changing of dates. Each Sport Director to look into and will be on agenda for March.

16.      A suggested Revision of the Outdoor Track Schedule handed out (from Commissioner Deems H) and agreed to allow Phil S,
         Outdoor Track Director, to approve after receiving input from the Coaches. Please make sure to get back to Phil ASAP.

17.      Coaches meeting reports:
          a. Bsktbl – Sheet handed out and award winners and All-Stars  e-mailed. All-star game @ Mrbhd on Fri., 2/20 and Lg Div.
          will wear dark, & Small Div. white. Concern was voiced on ballots and not counting at the meeting – Mike P, Bsktbl Dir, has all the
          ballots and followed protocol outlined in handbook.
          b.  Swim – Award winners and All-Stars  were e-mailed and coaches want to change the site from
Salem State to Beverly next year.

18.      New business:
            a. Keith C, Rev, announced that he will let everyone know where they will play Tennis this Spring.
          b. E-mailed sheet from Roy C, Lac. Comm. Covered. Please make sure to follow up.
          c. Jim C, Bev, announced they will be playing Tennis away for the first ½ of the season.
          d. Keith C, Rev., asked about the possibility of starting events in the Winter earlier, but realized the difficulty to get everything
          in and to have all the events.
          e. Phil S, Pea, covered Outdoor track and need to have 400m hurdles set for your tracks. He also reminded everyone that you
          need to bring 2 officials with you, if the visiting team. Agreed that the NEC F/Soph meet will be at Pea. On 5/2.
         f. Concern voiced from LE & Winthrop on assigning Ice H officials. Sec/Treas. to check with Comm.
          g. Request from Bishop Fenwick to join NEC for F Hoc & Gymn. voted down.
          h. Gary M, LE, voiced concern on the making up of events, and that if it is a league event, it must be made up the next
          available date for both schools.
          i. Bill D, LC, announced that next winter, the
Lynn Schools will host Indoor meets at Lynn Tech, and this needs to be part of the schedule.
          j. Announced that Bob L, Essex A AD, is looking for Girls lacrosse V & JV Games.
          k. Jim C, Bev, announced that he needs to verify all Baseball dates since Landmark will be using Bev. fields when they are away.
