RE:       MINUTES OF 12/11 NEC MEETING

  1.        All AD’s welcomed along with an Intern from Endicott working with John Sullivan @ Danvers, and Principals from Dan, Glo, LC, Pea, Rev, Sau, & Winthrop.

  2.        Treasurer’s report accepted. Balance of $34704.52.

  3.       Football award winners and All-Stars handed out. Report from the Commissioner was that few schools used the evaluation of officials form,
           and this makes it difficult to evaluate good or bad.

  4.        2009 Football schedule discussed and motion defeated to have just 2 mandatory cross-overs.
            Motion accepted to have 1 fixed cross-over (same team each year), and two mandatory cross-overs that would be constant for two years
            – with an accepted  amendment that
Saugus play Peabody on Thanksgiving. A proposed draft of the Varsity 2009 Schedule was e-mailed to all
            on 12/12 and will be on Jan. agenda.

  5.        Discussion on the development of a NEC Tie-breaker for Football, instead of using the MIAA one. Following proposal accepted:
            (Is in our handbook up on the MIAA web-page)
            a. Head to Head Competition
            b. Record against common non-divisional opponents. All tied teams must have played common opponent(s).
            c. Points allowed involving only those teams that are tied, and if still tied to go to next placed team in their division.
            d. Eliminate as many teams as you can at each level, then revert back to a, each time a team is eliminated.

  6.       Media Reps checked with two changes – Mike Broderick, Saugus, will be the Boys Basketball Rep, and Kim Cash, Win, will be the Gymnastics rep.
           All others remain the same.

  7.        Larry McIntire, Basketball Commissioner, handed out assignments & officials list, reviewed rule changes, and reminded all to keep officials list in a safe place,
            since all social security numbers are listed.
Wayne Silva, Ice Hockey Commissioner, was unable to attend, but sent a packet for each school. Anyone with
            questions should direct them to
Wayne. Deems Hatch, Indoor Track Commisisoner, will assign all meets & any concerns should be sent directly to him.

  8.        Sheet listing all Fall ’09 dates handed out and agreed to for all Fall Schedules. Schedules will be handed out in January.

  9.        Winter Rosters – If you have not received, please call the school you are missing. All should be distributed for Boys and Girls Basketball, & Ice Hockey.

10.        Coaches Meetings & NEC Winter Events cross-checked and the following changed:
            a. Boys & Girls Bsk. Mtg will now be on 2/11 @
Danvers beginning at 8 pm with Foul Shooting.
            b. Wrestling Mtg @ Bev. on 1/29 will begin at 6 pm.
            c. Cheering Competition on Sun., 2/8 will be at Beverly HS – 1 pm
            d. Ice Hockey All-star game vs CAL will be at the Reading Rink – Sat., 2/21 at 7 pm.
            e. Gymnastics Open will be at the Sterling YMCA in Bev. on Sat., 2/7 at 7 pm.

11.        District A – All reminded to pay dues to MSSADA and to register for Conference and Hotel. All forms are up on the MSSADA web-site.

12.        Mike P, Mrbhd, handed out the Fall Martin Standings, and congratulated for doing another outstanding job. Please review and if you have any
             concerns call Mike.

13.        Dates for the NEC Leadership Program at Endicott are still in the process – hopefully will be on Monday, 3/16 – prior to the annual AD Conference.

14.        Mid-year exam week for 2010 will be 1/18/10 to 1/21/10 – MLK Day: 1/18.

15.        Motion accepted to have the CAL/NEC Volleyball Schedule for next Fall – 2009, be one div. with all 10 schools: NEC – Bev, Pea, Rev, Sal;
             CAL – HW, Lynfd, Msc, NA, NR, & Wil. Will play everyone twice and proposed schedule will be ready for the Jan. mtg.

16.        New Business/e-mails:
            a. Concern voiced on coaches making comments after All-Star & Commissioner meetings. Sec/Treas. to come in with language to add to All-Star and
                Commissioner sheets in the NEC handbook. A proposal will be on agenda in January.
            b. Payroll sheet that had comments listed on it was enclosed with payment to official. All AD’s are to make sure that any comments are eliminated prior
                to turning in to business office.
            c. Scott C, Sal, updated schools whose game site will change in Basketball due to construction.
            d. Rob O, Win, reminded all of his e-mail stating they do not have a Fresh. Girls Bsk. Team.
            e. Jim C, Bev, reminded all of his e-mail stating they do not have a JV Ice Hoc. Team.
            f. Phil S, Pea, announced that they are starting an intramural Wrestling program and may try to have some JV meets.
            g. Gary M, LE, asked if anyone was interested in having Middle School Baseball & Softball during the Fall next year. This is done to maximize use
                of fields & have school programs.
            h. John S, Dan, voiced concern that if anyone planned to forfeit a football game it should be done ASAP. Mike N, Sau, stated they plan to play all games.
            i. Mike P, Mrb, had questions on the number of all-stars for golf & will be on the Jan. agenda.
