RE:       MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 13TH NEC MEETING

1.       Treasurer’s report accepted. Balance of $23504.82.

2.       October minutes accepted.

3.       Spring Schedules accepted: F Bsbl/Sftbl, V/JV Bsbl, V/JV Sftbl, Coed Trk, B & G Tn, B & G Lac, and MS Track.
          Changes were made in the V/JV Bsbl & F Bsbl/Sftbl and will be e-mailed out with
these minutes.

4.       Discussion on the 2009 Football Schedule that was handed out. Idea’s presented:

            a. Have Rev play Pea & Win play Sau on Thanksgiving – to make game more meaningful since

            it could have an impact on the winner of the division & move Win vs Rev game to first of season.

            b. Have only two mandatory crossovers & have Pea play Sau on Thanksgiving again.

            c. Motion to reconsider 2009 Football Schedule that has 3 mandatory crossovers – passed.

            d. Principals will be invited to attend Dec. meeting to develop new schedule.

5.       Coaches meeting reports:

            a. Soccer – Award winners and all-stars handed out.

            b. F Hoc – Award winners, final standings, all-stars, and report handed out. Motion accepted to eliminate NEC Field Hockey rule c3,
            and will now follow MIAA rule on periods allowed to play.

            Motion defeated to eliminate Everett & Malden from the schedule. Concern voiced on Malden’s unwillingness to reschedule a game with Bev.

            c. Golf – Award winners, final standings, all-stars, and report handed out. Discussion on how NEC Golf open is run and would like to include
            more deserving golfers; concern voiced on schedule & need to alternate home & away; rule on female golfers using same tee as male;
            & coaches speaking to opposing players. Recommendations will come after pre-season meeting & made clear that if a coach has a concern
            with an opposing player, they speak to the players coach, not the player.

            d. Cross C – Award winners, final standings, all-stars, and report handed out. Motion accepted to have the NEC purchase Open Championship
            Plaques for CC,
Ind Trk, & Sp Trk.

            e. Indoor Trk – Report was e-mailed and included a directory of all coaches. Motion accepted to have the NEC @ the Open allow athletes:
            1 run, 1 field, & 1 relay, or 1 field & 2 relays. Also accepted that any athlete that runs an individual event greater than or equal to 600 meters may be
            able to participate in the 4X800 relay as well. NEC Handbook also updated & will be posted on MIAA web-site.

            f. Ice Hockey – Schedule all set - get via Commissioner’s web-site.

            g. Gymnastics – Coaches concerned with Awards, Money, & Schedule. Schedule changed by coaches/Comm. To accommodate sites;
            Awards will have Female figures; & any income from the open goes to the NEC.

            h. Swimming – Sheet handed out from Meghan Beaulieu – she is helping out while Barbara Damon is recouping – on the relay carnival
            & general information. Please make sure your coach gets a copy of this. All wished Barbara the best for a speedy return. Also announced that the
            Diving warm-ups will begin at
5 pm on 12/19 & 1/16.

6.       Oct. 1st enrollment figures handed out for NEC & CAL schools. Peabody was corrected to: Boys total: 955, Girls total: 931 – for total of 1886.

7.      District A report:

            a. Jim C, Dist. A Rep, announced that the District Suites may be closed at the AD Conference during workshops, in hopes of increasing
            attendance at workshop & visiting vendors.

            b. Also asked if AD’s want a District A meeting at the Conference – consensus was yes.

            c. Award nominations: AD of Yr – Phil Sheridan, Pea; Ted Damko – Jim Coffey, Bev; & NIAAA outside the field – Dan Venturi, Boston Herald.

            d. All AD’s voted on proposed rule changes – Jim will bring votes to Dist. A meeting.

8.       Cheering competition at Bev. went well & financial report handed out. Scott needs a site for the Winter Competition – Bev. volunteered again
            & thanks given to Jim C & Linda Z.

9.       Rule books handed out for Bsk, Ice H, Gymn, Swim, Wrest, & Track & Field.

10.        Leadership program at Endicott College – no new news.

11.        NEC Events & Coaches meetings cross-checked. Only changes:

            a. Swimming Coaches meeting on 2/9 @ LC will now be at 5 pm (from 7 pm).

            b. Site of NEC vs CAL All-Star Ice Hockey – Tentative at Reading Rink on Sat., 2/21.

12.        New Business:

            a. MIAA Sports limitation sheet handed out.

            b. MSSADA Room reservation form handed out & all attending reminded to send in ASAP.

            c. All reminded of MIAA Alignments & if you want to appeal placement need to do by 12/1 for the Fall.

            d. Mike N, Sau, handed out High School Hotshots – for Channel 7 news (Wife works for them).

            e. Wrestling meeting @ Bev. was cancelled – Jim C to reschedule.

            f. Discussion on Football Tie-breaker and Jim C has e-mailed a proposal (dated 11/18/08). The CAL tie-breaker is: 1 – H to H, 2 –
            Record vs own div. top to bottom; 3 – Points allowed involving
only those teams that are tied, and if still tied to go to next placed team;
            4 – Coin flip.

            g. Bill D, LC, announced Bsk. Jamboree’s: Girls on 12/6 @ LC – 4 pm; Boys on 12/7 @ LC – 1:30 pm.
