RE:       NEC MINUTES OF 1/8 MEETING

1.        All AD’s welcomed along with George Kaltsas, Intern working in Marblehead, and Eric Oxford, Intern working in Danvers. Both are Interns at Endicott College

2.        Treasurer’s report accepted. Balance of $28215.91.

3.        December minutes accepted.

4.        District A report: all reminded to make sure they have paid their dues (Bill Johnson), registered for the hotel, and registered for the conference with
          Thom Holdgate. All info is up on the MSSADA web-site. (If you go to the MIAA web-site & hit links – MSSADA – is now working)

5.        Scholar Athlete Banquet is set for Sun., 5/17 @ the Porthole Pub in Lynn & the Coaches Banquet is set for Tues., 6/9 @ the Franco Am. Club in Beverly.
          Both will have social at
6 pm
with dinner at 7 and awards at approx. 8 pm. Each school receives 8 invitations for the Scholar Banquet
          (Male & Female winners with parents, AD, & Principal). Possible speakers: Alex Perry, Dan and Tom Salah, Glo.

6.        Fall Schedules handed out for Golf, CC, Girls & Boys Soccer, FH, & Girls Vlbl. All will be acted on at the Feb. meeting. Updated 2009
           V Football Schedule
handed out and accepted. Glo is back in the North and Bev in the South due to an error on the male enrollment as of
          10/1/07 - MIAA figures for the alignments. A new updated schedule was e-mailed to all and is dated 1/13/09.

7.        Winter Cheering Competitions discussed and Scott C, Salem AD, in charge of Cheering, announced that they will be split with
           Ice Hockey @ Danvers on 3/1 with Basketball @ Salem on 2/8 as originally scheduled.

8.        All Coaches meetings and NEC Events cross-checked. Following are changes:
          a. Ice Hockey cheering at
Danvers on Sun., 3/1 – 1 pm (gym opens at 11 am)
          b. Basketball cheering at
Salem on Sun., 2/8 – 1 pm (gym opens at 11 am)
          c. Indoor Track @ RLC – Thurs., 2/5 –
2-5 pm
          d. Gymnastics Open @ Sterling YMCA in  Bev – Sat., 2/7 – 7 pm
          e. Swimming Open – Tues/Wed – 2/3 & 2/4 – begins at
5:45 pm

9.        All reminded that any changes made with Spring Schedules need to be sent to the Commissioner of that sport.

10.      The following proposal to the Commissioners Job Description accepted: #1 – add the following sentence at the end:
           All information discussed during the evaluations shall be considered p
rivileged and confidential information not to be discussed
           to officials, press, or anyone once the meeting is adjourned.
Each sport Director is to make sure this is covered with all
coaches and
           commissioners at your meetings.

11.      NEC Leadership program has been rescheduled for the 09-10 school year. Mike P, Mrb, is working with Endicott College for a date that works for all.

12.        Discussion on Indoor Track Meets and their length and late starts. Agreed to next year schedule 3 or 4 JV meets separate from the V, and to not hold
             JV events at V meets. All urged to use a
sound system for the calling of athletes to the events to speed up the process.

13.        Discussion on having Middle School Baseball & Softball in the Fall ’09 to help in field usage. Following schools are interested:

Lynn Schools, St Pius in Lynn, Saugus, Win, & Dan. – Will be on agenda for Feb.

14.        New Business:
            a. Sec/treas. will be gone from 1/18 thru 2/1.
            b. Gary M, LE, thanked the NEC for the flowers, cards, & thoughts on the passing of his Mom.
            c. The following co-op teams have been approved by the NEC and District A and are not up on the MIAA web-site.
                E-mail (
1/16/09) has been sent to Jean Ciliberto, MIAA, & Tim Woods, District A with the following list:
               1 – Boys Ice Hockey – LC Host with LE & Lynn Tech as guests
               2 – Girls Ice Hockey – LE Host with LC, Win, & Rev as guests
               3 – Swimming – LC Host with Sau as guest
               4 – Swimming – LE Host with Win as guest
               5 – Gymnastics – Win as Host with LE as guest
               6 – Boys Lac – LE as Host with LC as guest
               7 – Wrestling – Win as Host with Sau as guest
               8 – Girls Ice Hockey – Bev as Host with Dan, Glo, & Sau as guest
               9 – Wrestling – Mrb as Host with Swp as guest
              10 – Boys Ice Hockey – Sal as Host with HW as guest

            d. Phil S, Pea, discussed the Swimming entry for the MIAA tournament, and in discussion with Jan M, MIAA, it was agreed that you could enter all
                – Girls & Boys – under the Girls schedule.

            e. Phil S, Pea, voiced his concern with the Girls Ice Hockey, where he does not have a co-op or a MS waiver, and his team has not been doing well.
